... which means you're trying to get the rest of the network settings, that is, your IP address, gateway, DNS, broadcast, netmask etc, automatically via dhcp, which doesn't work.  As I said in the tutorial.

QuotePlease help me!

dhcp will rarely work.  As the tutorial said, you HAVE to enter the IP addresses MANUALLY, you CAN'T rely on dhcp to do it for you.

PharaohsVizier

Ummmm, I don't think my router supports static ip through the DS.  It is all odd, and is automatically DHCP UNLESS the computer itself asks for a static ip.  How do I do that with the DS

I'm using a DLink DI-624 BTW

Kudaku

hey jewelie, i got links working great, thanks for the tutorial, and if anyone needs help getting it to work,  i'll try to help as much as i can as well

Alright now I have it connected, but it still doesn't work.  When I enter a site, it turns blank again.  For retawq it says
Warning: with the current configurations, DNS hostname lookups will "black" the whole program, and it will seem to hang

please help

Hmmmm...  quite possibly not, by the sound of it.  You might want to have a look at the forums on //www.dslinux.org

How do you know you have it connected?  Can you "ping" the router (ping 192.168.0.1, or whatever the router's IP address is.)  Assuming your IP address, netmask, broadcast, and gateway address, are all correct, you still need the right IP address for a suitable nameserver in DNS1="" to translate website names into IP addresses.

Try "ping www.google.com", if you then see it attempting to ping a number, an IP address, whether or not you get a reply, then you've got most of it working.

Quote from: "Sonny_Jim"Classic case of RTFM?  If you read rc.defaults it asks you to cp /etc/rc.defaults /etc/rc.conf and to THEN edit /etc/rc.conf.

Ah, but unfortunately, the text in rc.defaults tells you to copy the file to the wrong location though, oops.  :?

It's just-

cp /etc/rc.defaults /etc/rc.conf

...as you said, and then...

nano /etc/rc.conf

...to edit it.   :D

but doesn't it need to be copied to the mounted media? it will automatically mount the CF/SD card on /media and there's where I copy rc.conf to(/media/linux/ect/) then I edit it with vi and it seems to work when I start the network all the settings I've set loads up but my router still doesn't seem to "see" that the ds is trying to link up...

EDIT: LOL turns out the damn router was indeed blocking the DS, whatever you people do NEVER get yourselves a fucking D-link router... this DI-624 is the worst piece of crap ever assembled by mankind...

All I did was create a firewall rule allowing all connections from the DS ip, i got it to talk with the router but WAN is still not working, on top of that the router keeps rebooting when ds linux is using wireless.... this fucking thing sucks so much is even hard to believe, that's it I'm dumping this piece of crap and getting me a linksys router
SC CF + 1GB Kingston CF + flashed NDS = a whole lot of fun.

In Linux (and unix presumably) you have things called 'symbolic links'.  In windows land they get called shortcuts.  The file /etc/rc.conf isn't really in /etc, but in /media/linux/etc as you noticed.  Everytime linux accesses /etc/rc.conf, it gets pointed at the one in the /media directory.  It doesn't matter if you vi /etc/rc.conf or /media/etc/rc.conf as they will get treated as the same file.

On a similar topic, I think stsp has changed the builds so /etc is fully writable now.

PharaohsVizier

Ok, ur right, mine isn't connected, but it looks as though the start, it connects...  It has an ip and everything.  Thanks for all your help

liquidnitrogen

hm.. i semi got it work... amazingly it CAN write to the supercard lite...

but i believe the problem is with my router..

what is the difference between using channel 6 and channel 11?

Devil_Spawn

of course it can write to the  scliter because a. amadeus is a genius and b it is not like conventional omebrew, it uses a completely different style of fat driver
