why do we need to patch roms ?

do they get slows only if patched ?

This topic has been discussed SOO much.. can u search around a bit?  In a sense, slowdown IS caused by patching, but torne has done his own research, and found that the type of SDRAM the supercard uses REQUIRES the patch-induced slowdown in order for the roms to run at all.  

I guess the idea is that the slowdown is a necessary side-effect if we want those particular roms to run at all!  If not they would just crash.

again, just search around.  I don't want to re-hash a well-discussed topic.  

not all roms have noticable slowdown, most work fine for me.
