Final Fantasy III problem during/after battles near end

Hi, I'm at the Crystal Tower (or whatever it's called) and so far i've had the game crash twice on me.

The first time was right before I was going to fight one of those bosses to get an item (it's the one after the Masamune), and the second time was right after I defeated a boss to get the Protect Ring - before the cut scene.

In the first case, both screens went black; and in the 2nd time around the bottom screen went white and the top screen black!  I had to turn off the DS as it wouldn't go back to normal.

Anyone else have this problem?? It's so annoying, especially after spending half an hour to get that far.

I have a Supercard Lite with the latest firmware, etc.    For now, the only workaround would be to do the "Save and Quit" thing while I'm in the tower, and then take out the microSD and back up the save file to my PC each time.   So this way I don't have to restart all the way to the beginning of the tower.  :-P

It happened to me in the same place once, but i just cleaned off all the memory card contacts and the problem never occurred again. 45+ hours of play so far.

Mota, did you clean off the contacts that were in the Supercard or the contacts on the SD card itself?

I guess I could lightly blow on the Supercard part.

Thanks

Both. And it doesn't hurt to clean contacts with an alcohol swab now and then. Not beer :P

Back in the day, 'Classic' GB games and Snes titles would sometimes refuse to boot until cleaned. Funny cus they always looked clean anyway, I guess they were just a bit touchy.

I don't like the reliability of these SC Lites.  I had to return my first one because it didn't work..   but thanks for your advice, i'll try to clean the inside of the microsd drive (how did you reach in there?) - or did you clean the actual cartridge slot itself.   My wife has the SC SD and she hasn't had a problem, ever.

If you need to clean inside a card bay where you can't reach, do so by getting the card's contacts good and alcohol'ed up, and then insert/remove the card several times.

I wouldn't use alchohol...... yeah I've said it about 600 times, but 409 is the bomb. By the way, I wouldn't try blowing in it either (moisture and that crap... water + metal = rust). If you want to clean dust out, use one of those air cans that all the little kiddies suck and kill themselves from (NO! Don't suck it... spray it in the SuperCard!).
