Upgrade problem

My supercard sd came with the 1.63 firmware, so I wanted to upgrade to 1.70. When I attempted to upgrade it got to 239k and threw a write error. So I fix the card with its original version, which also failed at the same point. Though it did seem to fix the graphical problems. So I used google and found that CB chips chips have a problem with the 1.63 firmware, and that I needed 1.63b. After some searching I found 1.63b and tried flashing it, with this one it seems to always fail at around 50-60k.  So I looked up the info on how to identify a fake, but mine came out real. I've found I can clean downgrade to 1.62 but not back up to 1.63. Also the chip in my SC says lattice, though I can seem to find CB(or MX) anywhere on the chip.

I know this is old, but I wanted to report my findings for those having troubles with this same problem. I had a original GBA (the wide long one) and was trying to upgrade to 1.63 and 1.7 on a SCSD. I don't have the CB/MX firmware, but the one that is fine. Everytime i would try to upgrade it would freeze at 239kb (using the .bin upgrade files). 1.62 would install just fine. I just got my (original) DS in this weekend and tried the same upgrade on that hardware, and it worked fine. So maybe its something specific to the hardware to not being able to upgrade correctly or verify the write correctly. I don't have an SP to test with, but the Original GBA definately has problems doing these upgrades.
