Moonshell patch necessary?

Hey there. I have a supercard lite (micro SD) running on the same firmware as when I bought it new in Tokyo around 3 months ago (chinese version).
I'm really happy with it so far but have a few problems trying to get some homebrew to run.
I'm loving "Moonshell" & wondering if it's really necessary to patch Moonshell with the "patch moomshell for super card.exe" patcher?
I've been running Moonshell version 1.51 with no problems for a while now using a clean, un-patched "_BOOT_MP_SCMS_Supercard_MicroSD.nds"..
though I notice the error messages flying by as It starts up.
I decided to try a patched version of Moonshell 1.51 today instead to see if it was any different.. it seems that I get white screens for a split second as startup & reset now & there seems to be more "cpu overflow" errors at loadup.. seems to me that Moonshell 1.51 is better off *not* being patched.
So, should it be patched or unpatched & why?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Edit: Damn, this is in the wrong section. Sorry about that, I'm half asleep. Could a mod move it to the "help & tips" section? (or delete this post & I'll ask it again in the right place)

I think this is how the timeline went:

SC Micro comes out
People freak because they can't make moonshell work
Romman releases a patcher to fix moonshell
Infantile (moonshell dev) patches moonshell so it's fine without romman's hack
"Moomshell" patch is found to still be useful for CERTAIN homebrew that can't figure out SC Micro
Homebrew devs begin to release new versions with native SC Micro support

We're part-way through the last one right now.  Certain homebrew probably benefits from the hack, but I mostly just use Moonshell lately.
