Wii-ed TP is in the toilet

The Wii version of Twilight Princess seems really... lacking.  So far, anyway.  I just got to the earth temple or whatever it's called - I'm guessing it's the first big dungeon.

The game is really disappointing me so far.  Too many pointless, half-finished controller gimmicks.  Too many obvious tutorial elements.  Combat as a whole seems to be completely without even the simple strategies possible in previous Zelda games - it's just wobble your controller until everyone's dead, hopefully not including you.  The "twilight realm" (dark aether), reclaiming lost "energy" (uh, lost "energy"), for the four light spirits (energy controllers), which need "instincts" (dark visor) to see... this goes on and on, lol.  I guess light vs dark world is a very much liked theme in Japan.

There ARE good things too.  There was very good planning in things like horse calling with grass, for instance.  But on the whole, I'm completely bored.  Bored.  I can't go on.

Some of the problem is probably due to the fact that I'm playing my Wii on my computer, through a TV tuner that seems to not quite keep up 100% with Z:TP for some reason.  It handles Wii sports just perfect, but I'll be damned if I can properly time this acrobat thing with the monkey.

Can someone please tell me it honestly gets better?  I keep telling myself, obviously I'm still very very early in the game, heck I've only got three hearts still.  But even then, I'm not enjoying this tech demo so far.  Does Z:TP get better eventually?  I really want to enjoy this game, but I'm having a hard time.

If you want to preview what happens, you can check out the IGN walkthrough which is free at the moment (or was at least while I was making pdfs of each section for my son- good ream of paper and several ink cartridges- have children not heard of "draft"?)

Yea I hear you, I felt the exact same way the first 10 or so hours, I was on the verge of getting tired of the collecting and other little quests, but once you rid the areas of the twilight you get to open up a big chunk of Hyrule, and thats where I thought it got really good, now I'm pretty pumped about playing zelda, and hate putting it down. I'm just past the 40 hour point currently.  I think the whole tutorial/beginning part was made longer as way to extend the gameplay content, once you get past that it opens up the game and does get a lot better in my opinion.

This is part of the problem.  It introduces delay in the display, and will make the control scheme feel even more clunky and imprecise.

The beginning... was very disappointing. But once you stop being Midna's slave, it get's good. :) There were a few problems I noticed though...

No magic... what the Hell? It's traditional Zelda to have magic! This almost made me want to cry. :(

No musical instrument that you can carry around and actually learn songs for.

Not enough side quests NOT involving fighting enemies.

And it just seemed like.... I dunno... there was too much more overworld fighting than villages. Like the usual balanced 50-50. No characters you get attached to. On the other hand though, the dungeons were amazing, and the enemies were perfect. It's just hard to explain...

I agree, I miss the ocarina, and magical attacks/powers.  But they did introduce the new fighting skills which are welcome. I personally wished there were more enemies and harder ones at that, the game as a whole feels easy yet still challanging, which can be a good and a bad thing as it eliminates dying and retrying parts over and over till you pass it.

And if you cant time the monkey thing, yea, its probably your setup lagging.

I kinda disagree.  Only thing I can understand is the twilight realm is a bit boring collecting those tears of light.  Other than that once you get to death mountain the game gets good to me.  Your setup seems like its lagging the game.  I played this on the gamecube and I didn't want to play it after playing the wii version.
DS-Supercard cf 1gig cf card !

it sounds like the lagging is making you not enjoy the game (I've tried games from my PS2 to my monitor too using my TV tuner card). The lagging of controls can really make you stop playing, try it on a TV and see if you get the same results. I applaud you for playing wii sport wiht the laggign though O.o I remember trying to play narutimate hero 3 (fighting game) on my TV tunner card that sucked....after 30 minutes I was just like ...this suck ~ and I've played the game on TV before so I knew how it was suppose to feel, so I brought out my smaller TV ^^;;

Thanks for the encouragement.  I'll have to get back at it once I get my Wii hooked up to the TV.  Meanwhile, I've got kickass wii tennis to keep me occupied :D  Anyone else think it's one of the best pack-ins ever?  I've hardly touched anything besides tennis and excite truck.  It's so well done!  You could never have anything like this with a traditional gamepad.

I'm thinking about getting Excite Truck... and I played Tennis the first day I got my Wii until I went pro then not much after. :P It's about 90% of my Wii Sports time though.
