Not sure if this has been asked and answered before. I know that you can't completely use the same loaders, but are the Shell and System folders the same between the M3 Simply and R4... are they interchangeable?

If so... than the _DS_MENU.DAT & _DS_MSHL.NDS are the only differences for the loaders?

_DS_MSHL.NDS is the same.

the *.dat file is the only unique one.
