Ok...I know this may be a dumb question.....but if I have the SUPER KEY...whenever I download the new software for Supercard, it always includes another file that you install on your supercard....which I think flashes your firmware....

If I'm using a SUPER KEY already, do I need to use this other file and flash my firmware of my DS lite?  I mean, if I patch the games with the new software, won't it automatically work, regardless if i go thru that flash process?  i'm confused...

No, you don't need to flash if you use a Superkey.  And you don't need to type in all caps either... >_>

But seriously, it isn't needed.  I personally flashed my DS so I could hold a regular DS game in slot-1 while having my Supercard in slot-2.  It's just a convenience issue.  That and I get some form of protection in case I accidentally run a DS bricker some day.

Hi

You don't need to, but it's in your best intrest to for two reasons

1. You have protection against the dsbricker

2. Less battery will be used

And besides, you can get rid of that warning screen when you turn on your nds (unless you like the warning screen in which case just use flashme stealth).

I reccomend installing it. It sounds scary and hard, but it's really extreemly easy.

I'm not talking about actually flashing my ds.....u know when you download the new Supercard Software?  It comes with 2 files...one you install on your PC for patching roms, and the other that you put on your SD/CF memory card, which then goes into your supercard, and then you run it.  The one that you run, is that firmware for your actual SUPERCARD - or is it firmware for your actual DS?  Is it necessary to run this firmware to play the games you patch with the software?

Am i making sense?

thanks for all the replies

That is the Supercard's firmware.  It should be fairly painless to install, and it's recommended to help make more games work.  Just update the Supercard's firmware and make sure you're using the latest version of the patching software to maintain the highest compatibility.

If you need QPC saving and you find that the 1.7 firmware breaks it, either reboot into GBA mode instead of DS mode to save the game or use DumpSRAM as an alternative.  Info about QPC saving can be found at http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/Supercard#QPC_Saving (I'll update the article in a few minutes to include info about DumpSRAM and rebooting in GBA mode)

I think you should flash your ds. Because like everyone said, protection from Bricker. and you can play the single card download play from other flash card.

Hmm, could anyone tell the name (and/or link) of a good patched (=no health warning, etc) firmware for the DS Lite? Thanks.

flashme v7 is the newest one. theres the regular one which gets rid of the health screen and flashme stealth which still shows the health screen ONLY IF you dont have a supercard etc in your slot2

This is sort of off-topic I guess, but why is everyone scared of running a bricker on their DS? I mean.. what kind of files are you downloading? Whenever I download something I always do I background check on it to make sure it's safe, so there's really no need to worry about bricking. Not to mention wouldn't there be more of a chance of you bricking your DS while flashing it then there would be of running a bricker?
My Music

Nearly all of my songs are made with Fruity Loops, except for one where I used Reason. I recommend looking at my ambient stuff, and staying away from old songs, which are pretty crappy.

there were a couple of apps that housed the "bricker" in the past.  It isn't a very current concern, to be honest.  I only flashed my newest DS Lite to get rid of the health warning. lol.
