I'll admit it I am a complete newb and need some help to set everything up.  Here is what I have on the way...

Black DS Lite
Supercard Lite
Superkey
1GB Japan Kingston MicroSD

First I need to know what I need to do to set up everything out of the box and then want to know how to play NDS roms as well as some GBA/SNES/NES games.  Also am looking for a web browser and a basic movie/music player.  Thanks

Oh and what exactly does flashing do?  I was under the impression that the superkey was so I did not have to flash anything just to play domestic release roms and a few homebrews

There's no region coding on the DS, so you don't need to specify domestic/foreign.

You don't need to flash, but flashing will protect you from trojans and badly written homebrew.

1. Convert DS roms. Copy to mSD.
2. Put mSD in Supercard
3. Put Supercard and Superkey in DS
4. Turn on DS. Easy, isn't it?

you wont be able to run the opera web browser with just a supercard lite unfortunately , there are however text browsers you can use

Cool thnx, I get how to add DS games with the patcher now (I think) but do I just use the patcher for GBA NES and SNES games too?

also on the firmware page for SClite there is a download named
"SOFTWARE for MoonShell: MoonShell Reset for SC (2006.08.03)"
is that the full moonshell that I need to run music and vids? the word "reset" kinda threw me off.  and how do I add it? With the patcher as well?

guides are kinda hard to find on this, most of what i have found is advanced stuff =/

Same converter for GBA.

MoonShell Reset for SC is a SOFTWARE for MoonShell. You use it to soft reset your DS in Moonshell. You don't need it anyway because soft reset is now built in.

Does this guide count as hard to find?

DS and GBA you seem to be okay with, as they both use the same Supercard patcher.

For NES, you have two options.  You can simply put the .nes roms onto the card and launch them directly from the Supercard menu, which will launch it in GBA mode using PocketNES v9.97.  To save, first place a blank .sav file with the same name as the NES rom in the same folder and then press the button combination found at the FAQ of http://eng.supercard.cn to save your progress to that .sav file.  Alternatively, you could use NES DS, which takes advantage of the updated capabilities of the DS.  If you just got your SC Lite though, it's probably of the newer variety that NES DS won't support by default, so you'll need to package your roms into the .nds file instead of being able to browse your card for them.  Further instructions can be found at http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/NES_DS - note that if your SCLite is supported by NES DS's filesystem code, you can use the instructions for Slot-2 Supercards, while if it doesn't, use the instructions for R4.

For SNES, you have three main options, all of which run in DS mode (there are ones for GBA, but if you have DS capability I'd recommend using it).

First there's SNES DS, which is old and antique but will work well on slot-2 Supercards.  Follow the instructions at http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/SNES_DS for Supercard usage.  I've made a quick video tutorial that might help - http://dannysied.googlepages.com/SNES_DS_tutorial.wmv - note that I'm using the latest SuperDAT from the PocketHeaven boards for maximum compatibility.  In my video I use make_nds.bat but with your SCLite just launch snesDS.exe and rename the output snesDS.ds.gba file to whatever.nds.  I would rank SNES DS third out of the three, and I rarely ever use it.

Then there's SnezziDS, available at http://snezzi.pocketheaven.com - download v0.28a and then drag-and-drop your .smc SNES rom files onto snezzi.exe, copying the resulting .nds file over to your card.  It runs many games well at full speed with sound, but you can only have 1 SNES rom per .nds file.  This is the best emulator to use for Chrono Trigger.  This one tends to be the most accurate emulator, but it hasn't seen a new release since October, as the developer has run out of time for it.  Press L+R+Start to open the SnezziDS Config Menu during gameplay, where you can set a few options.  If graphics layering doesn't look right, press L+R+Select+Up a few times until you find a combination that works well.  I'd rank both SnezziDS and the next one, SNEmulDS, as being tied for first.

Finally, there's SNEmulDS, the one that has been receiving the most attention lately due to its recent updates.  The latest version is v0.5 Alpha, which lets Chrono Trigger work somewhat, though I'd also recommend trying v0.4 for games that are broken or have screwed up sound in v0.5 Alpha.  This is the only emulator that loads straight .smc files directly off your card, and it supports DLDI.  It has the most options for modifying the game while its being played, from disabling sound to squishing Mode 3 to messing with Vblank and speedhacks.  This is also the only emulator with support for savestates, and it has an SPC Jukebox feature that lets you play other .spc files while playing the game.  It's really shaping up to be a great emulator.

Through the combination of all three of those emulators, a large portion of the SNES library is playable.  Just keep in mind that some games will never work due to the use of coprocessors.  For a full list, see http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/SNES_games_with_special_chips

I'm sorry for being the king of offtopicness and constantly making offtopic posts. Omm, I haven't used the latest version of moonshell yet, but are you saying there is a built in way to make homebrew reset, or is this just a new feature in moonshell.

It's the latter right? I just get really excited when I see anything related to a way to get homebrew to reset. I really want to do it, and can't. (And unless your a programmer, libcartreset is of no help.)

He means that Moonshell now includes the ability to reset to the SC menu.  You still have to rely on the developers of other programs to include reset support.

Did I make a good choice are not...N00B...Hope I did not waste my money

You made a good choice, but probably not the best. It depends on what you like, but I prefer the R4 over the SCDS1. It's cheaper and works better.
