I think it's because wifi is activated at the title screen it does the same in my ds.

Devil_Spawn

how could you possibly believe that it is a problem?
its just it checking if it has wifi

actually it's just searching for wireless signals, not necessarily wifi. which in this case it is searching for pokemon ranger transmissions for egg transfer, Pokemon Wii or some other new pokemon thing to come our way

Those "wireless signals" are also wi-fi.

It could be the same local wireless used in local multiplayer, dubbed Nifi, which I believe is a modified form of Bluetooth.  "Wifi" usually refers to signals in the 802.11x bandwith spectrum, with "x" being a specification letter.

DS can only do 802.11b WiFi.
NiFi is a modified form of WiFi. Nintendo WiFi, get it? If it is Bluetooth, how did they get Wireless Multi Boot working with WiFi cards?

According to Wikipedia, it's also capable of connecting to 802.11g APs, which surprised me, though perhaps the DS itself is limited to b speeds.  I know it only supports WEP and not WAP, but that's different.

I understand where the acronym "Nifi" comes from, but I'm still not too sure exactly what protocol it is.  You're right, WMB used a wireless card, but it had to have modified drivers of course.  The point is that Nifi is a modified form of some wireless technology that we really don't understand too well.

EDIT:  quoting Wikipedia so you don't have to search for it, since I had a hard time finding it myself:
Quote from: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Wi-Fi_Connection"The Nintendo DS is an IEEE 802.11 device, and a player can access the service via any compatible wireless network. This includes public hotspots as well as personal 802.11b or 802.11g wireless routers, but does not yet include most public hotspots that use a captive portal.
