well ive been getting interested in MAME and was wondering exactly what arcade games it can emulate and what the newest ones it can emulate are? (doubt it can emulate virtua cop 3 and marvel vs capcom 2 right?)

DeVS

Ya it can do the Marvel VS Capcom games. Personally believe it or not but I think the Michael Jackson Moon Walker game is good as hell, lol.

could you recommend me maybe a list of games?

also is there a good gui version of MAME instead of the command line one?

bitblt

If you ask me . . . Space Invaders, Asteroids, Missile Command, Galaga, Defender, Mrs. Pac Man, Donky Kong, Frogger, Centepede, Joust, Q-Bert, Congo Bongo, Qix, etc. These are classic arcade games that I grew up playing.

The young crowd might enjoy a somewhat overlooked Taito game called Liquid Kids.  Excellent game.

Now you got me interested in Mame. That game looks cool and I've always enjoyed game made for a younger audiance than me.

I tend to play the games in MAME that nobody else does, so here I go: Uo Poku, Magical Drop, Twinkle Star Sprites, Landmaker, Money  Idol Exchanger, Cleopatra Fortune(the PS1 version makes a great PS1 to PSP game too), Armed Police Batrider, Logic Pro(Picross on steroids), Guwange

If you want bizarre, try Dancing Eyes.

Hi: Were you the one looking for E-rated, simpler games? If so, MAME has lots of them. Lots and lots. It also has some hyper-violent games, too, though, so be careful. Look out for the nudie mahjong too. There's a game called Mahjong Erotica Golf. No, I'm not joking. LOL

EDIT: In case anyone goes to try Uo Poku it's now called Puzzle Uo Poku in the newest MAME. That confused the hell out of me...

for me, its the games i grew up on. it still cracks me up, mashing buttons on track and field. also kung fu, and the like. what was the game where you had a round blade that was on a chain, and you could hit special spots to find things hidden in the rocks? that is a good one.

mames ok but to get the benefit of games such as MORTAL KOMBAT and TEKKEN you really need a FAST MACHINE with LOTS OF RAM and a good GRAPHICS CARD also with lots of ram to get it going at a playable speed  :(

....which I have all of the above  :p :D

works great but I would say any major big type game out in the last 3 or so years it will not emulate simply because of hardware restrictions  :(

Being an old timer (35) I can only recommend the older games. bitblt pretty much covered those but i'll add ...

Wonderboy, Gradius (Nemesis), Track & Field and Scramble. Those last three come with Konami Classics Series: Arcade Hits for the NDS. :D

The thing about MAME is that no matter what system you have there are always going to be games you can emulate. There are always going to be games you can't. Incidentally, video card doesn't matter. MAME doesn't use a 3-D accelerator even if the game is in 3-D, which is one of the reasons 3-D games set your CPU on fire.

My old AthlonXP 1500+ got me NeoGeo at speed and everything older. That's lots of games on a pretty obsolete computer.

if you read my statement I said..... to get benefit of above mentioned games  ;)

but will add .... MOST GAMES will run on somthing as low as a 500mhz processor just fine with no issues at all :)

just the more intense graphics capable games will need more kick to get them playing well enough to get the entertainment value out of them  :)

another recommendation is a good multi button joypad so you can add start and coin add to them via the pad so you dont have to get up and keep pressing the keyboard (or maby thats me being lazy lol)

METAL SLUG is good for a few hours too along with MEGAMAN and the classics such as centipede and pacman :)

Agreed. I have a couple PS2 to USB adaptors so I can get a total of 4 controllers on. Get some friends over for some 4 player XMen arcade or those D&D arcade games and it's a good time. :)

I got mine from PLAY a cheap joytec 12 button 2 analogue sticks (sticks are also buttons as with ps2) pad for about £9 which was a bargain I think :D

Got it originally for using with N64 emulation as you need lots of buttons for N64 such as changing camera views etc  :)
