Writing on the microSD

It seems to me that my supercard will never write any new files nor edit the files on the microSD card when I'm using it on the DS. This is a serious problem for me because then it can never create a .sav file for my games. Also, I can not set the save file sizes on the games to different sizes, because it will always reset to the old standard.

I know its not because of the format of the card because its set at FAT32.

Do I have a defective Supercard or microSD?

superzap

Although SCDSONE is supposed to support FAT32 I would choose FAT / 64K-Cluster Size instead
(That's what I've been using and I've never had any probs so far!)

cabbage

Well i did set mine back to FAT (still not working), but the only thing i can format it to is the "default allocation size". Is that the 64K-Cluster or do i need to install a driver or something, OR I'm i doing it wrong?

kkan

my question is what size is your card !?

default cluster sizes are as follows  1GB 64k clusters  2GB 64k and 4GB 64k when formatted FAT 16

formatting as FAT32  they should be set as 1GB @ 8192, 2GB @ 16k, 4GB @ 32k

My second question is HOW MANY FILES do you have in the ROOT DIRECTORY there are limits with FAT 16 for how many files you can have as default in the root directory of the card ... so you need to put the save games and game files into their own folder to get round this issue  :)

eg  rom1ds.sav and rom1ds.ds  both togther in a folder called ROM1 :)

maby this is the problem you may of reached its limit :)

cabbage

Well its a 1GB (Kingston [JAPAN]) The one you get from realhotstuff.com

I don't have many files in the root, just 9 (4 nds rom files, 4 folders, and one config file). I do keep all my games in one folder.

I did try to patch the roms with the supercard software. It successfully created .sav files to put on the microsd (and Animal Crossing now works!!! :D ) but still doesn't save. :(

[START] --> [RUN] --> "diskmgmt.msc" (the console pops up)

- right click your memory card's drive letter and select FORMAT
- in first line FAT is set as standard
- in the line beneath you can change cluster size to 64k
- now do a full format
- then drag and drop latest OS + FILES via EXPLORER

Hope this is gonna work (at least it should!)

cabbage

Well, I did like you said exactly. I even restarted completely over by downloading a fresh firmware and a clean rom yet nothing. So, I decided to give up. Theres not point in playing my games if I always have to restart to the beginning. Thank for all your help though, I really appreciate it.

I started to look at some new microSD cards and I saw these ones which seems like a really good deal, especially the rebate one. Do you think this will be a fast enough card. (I really don't want to have a speed problem right after all this saving nonsense.)

Patriot Signature 2GB

A-DATA 2GB

or should i just get a new kingston

WAIT why are you PATCHING for SCDSONE ??? is it not just a CLEAN ROM cart ??

ie.... just put it on the card and it works and patches on the fly like M3 and R4 ???

cabbage

Yeah, I've tried both patched and unpatched nothing works. All I can do now is either buy a new microSD of just play only one game at a time saving to the RAM.

pity you dont know anyone with another mem card that you can borrow and test before you buy another .... you may have a faulty SCDSONE :(

cabbage

Well I have one friend who has it, but its going to be hard to convince him to let me borrow it. He plays his supercard religiously. (he's able to save)

bribe him lol :p

I'm sure if you ask nicely and explain the situation  as a matter of urgency along with the fact that will be able to play him wifi battles etc :)

You could also try his card in your ds to eliminate the ds being the problem here too  :)

I'm really sorry that nothing at all made your card work... seems it's faulty  :(  --> you should have it replaced by your dealer!!

about the microsd cards: keep away from the 2gb cards, they are too slow   (have tried many of them though not the ones you mentioned)
Stick to the kingston 1gb but make sure they're from JAPAN (=rebadged TOSHIBA). The Taiwanese are too slow!!

Hope this will solve your trouble  :!:

cabbage

Do you think I should just get a R4 instead?......

superzap

I don't know much about the R4... but supercard offers: 'Blue-Light engine included. Support High speed flash memory card without any slow down'

So I'm not sure whether R4 can handle certain games properly (e.g. Animal Crossing, both Tony Hawks, both Castlevania etc.)

On SCDSONE with a Japanese KINGSTON they work like a charm (Speed manually set to 32x !!!)

I have never encountered any real trouble with my Supercard :D
So I suggest contacting your dealer and having the defective card replaced!

Maybe you should have a look at the following compatibility lists:
