Wow this is pretty much game over now for those mod developers trying to sell a chip for $40+ bucks. We now have an open source DVD upgradeable chip which cost like .30cents to make and does everything the $40 chips do! Gotta love this!

So is the chip better than the WiiFree as well?

DeVS

Is now, lol. All the open source chips are basically the same except the dvd upgradeable features sets the OpenWii apart from the rest. The OpenWii uses an atmega8 chip which is re programmable by dvd but the WiiFree only uses an PIC12F629-I/P pic chip which can not be reprogrammed via dvd.

oh so thats the only real difference between the two right? like if i get the WiiFree with the socket and pic programmer then its the same right??

DeVS

Different code but the same function. Have you already ordered? If not I would get the OpenWii instead since it will be all internal and no need for a pic programmer.

no i havent ordered it yet, where can i order the OpenWii from?

DeVS

Don't know of a place where you can buy em as most people just make the open source chips themselves.

does this chip do the same things as the WiiFree? like play gcn backups, wii backups, other region backups etc?

DeVS

Yes and they are working on the GC audio fix now too. Best option there is for free or commercial chip now. Gets regular updates, is dvd upgradeable, has a dedicated site with help forums where you can get help and talk to the developers, ect.

Hell is pre-tins the wire and even does half the install for you buy attaching the wires to the atmega chip.
