The DS hinge is not cracked, its near the volume adjustment and headphone thingy... (I didn't crack it though, I found it cracked when I took the DS Lite out.)

Can you phone them for me?  If you can, PM me with some questions they will ask and I'll reply to answer them.

No, I'm not going to impersonate your Dad. Why don't you simply return it to the store for exchange? You could also buy a new one then return the old one. It's pretty easy to swap bottoms with a tri-wing. If your DS came broken in the box then who is going to be the victim, you or the store? You could also call Nintendo and tell them you have a "cracked hinge" next time.

Vapourstreak

Ok.  My Dad doesnt know english BTW

Vapourstreak

I called 3 times.  They said no.  Can someone give me specific things to say?

bitblt

YOU: Hi. I'm calling because my DS Lite is under warranty, I still have the receipt, and it's not working right.
(note: they don't care about the receipt)

NINTENDO: I'll be happy to help you. What seems to be the problem?

YOU: The top screen flickers intermittently.

NINTENDO: What? I've never heard of that before.

YOU: Yeah, the top screen flickers intermittently.

NINTENDO: May I have the serial number on the back of your DS please? May I also have your email address please?

YOU: Sure, BLAH BLAH BLAH

NINTENDO: Ok, mail your DS Lite to this address BLAH BLAH BLAH If you prefer we will send you a pre-paid shipping label. Don't send your DS Lite sylus, power supply, and other accessories, only the core. BLAH BLAH BLAH You can track your DS Lite service online.

YOU: Thank you.

NINTENDO: Have a nice day.

(You should receive a brand new DS Lite core within a week.)

that's some good service there.

the UK's nintendo service centre insists you include the receipt (they don't care about the serial), you pay for your end of the shipping AND they promise nothing. apparently, you send it in for "evaluation" and they decide it then and there.

Vapourstreak

Should I get them to send me a prepaid label or send it myself?

I live very near Nintendo ofCanada, BTW

[EDIT]Thanks bitblt!  You're awesome!

Vapourstreak

Uh-Oh!  The person on the phone gave me the Nintendo website that has information on how to send the DS Lite in. It told me to pack the receipt too  but I don't have the receipt!

[EDIT]  Also, they told me to include a description of the problem.  On the phone, I told them the top screen was flickering.  It's not (The casing is cracked).  What do I write?

you should have been straight, now they could say it's flickering coz you dropped it and the hinge broke too. i'd just write it all in a letter, insisting it broke on its own and shove that with the ds... but that's just me :)

the only thing you got to lose is shipping, i don't know of anyone who had their ds confiscated because they lied (or whatever).

edit they also do DREAMY BLUE same price as above :)

Vapourstreak

To break the hinge and make the top screen flicker, am I supposed to drop it a few tims before sending it?

bitblt

Don't do anything to it!!! Just send it in as is. Tell them it has an intermittent problem. Intermittent means it doesn't happen all of the time. They are not going to have some repair guy spend hours trying to reproduce an intermittent problem. They will replace it.

The worst think that can happen is they will send it back as is.
