if this is related to the issue of you trying to return your ds to ninty, then i'd advise you not to take it apart.

i'm not trying to be difficult (or a bitch), but if you have trouble with screw drivers then the rest may be quite challenging.

A neat trick that I thought sounded fake is to take a cheap ballpoint pen like BIC crystal ones ( http://www.bicworld.com/inter_en/bdd/product_writing.asp?product_id=41 ), melt it with a lighter, and ram it into the screw.  Let it cool, than pull it out.  Voila!  tri-wing screwdriver!

You may have to re-melt it once or twice for each screw, since obviously it's not a very strong material, but it works in a pinch.

tried it, it doesn't actually work on the DS because a) the screws are smaller and b) the pen just won't fit the hole.

the only other thing i've tried (aside from an actual triwing screw driver) is to make my own using an old driver and a dremel cutting tool.

the best thing to do really is to buy a tri-wing screw driver (also known as tri-claw), they're around $5.

looking to bodge some tool out of household items can be fun, but even i had to end up forging my own driver. you do this by cutting the "Y" shape into an old, unwanted screw driver using a dremel tool with ceramic cutting disc. even then, that driver is only good for about 10 screws.

Can the tri-wing be bought in stores like futureshop or toys r" us?

No they cant, I looked into this topic a while back (last year) and you can not.  I went to a few hardware stores and they did not sell them. Ebay probably your best bet in getting one.
