Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you all know that my website, //www.DSDatabase.org has finally posted up the G6DS Real review.  It can be read here at http://dsdatabase.org/g6dsreal.html.  I even added a video of the OS working, because of popular demand.

Also wanted to let you know about the new website design.  Clauf put in a lot of his free time putting this together during the end of terms, so be thankful that he put it all together because of all the hate mail sent to him and mainly me about the popup issue.  Because it is still very new, there are probably a few links that don't work, or go to the wrong place, etc.  So if you see any, please reply on this thread, it'll help us out a lot.

Thanks,
PharaohsVizier

P.S.  Any general comments on the site, or suggestions, problems, would be very appreciated.

Once again, that is //www.dsdatabase.org.  Bookmark it.  :)

nice, professional review ;) I like the way the cheat system looks, a lot like the real ARDS.  Does it support the folder thing though? You know, + - buttons?  It seemed to load BiADS pretty fast, too.  It's nice, but I just don't think I could pay that much for a limited amount of memory.

Hmmm, now that you brought that to my attention, it doesn't have the +, - buttons.  :(

Very nice review Pharaoh. It was very more detailed, very more informative, and very more professional then other reviews I've read. And you were more forgiving about the DLDI and download play then the other reviews. You actually know that the DLDI auto patcher will happen, and that the download play will get better.

Really, your reviews are pretty much the only ones I take seriously anymore. Others are just laughable.

As always, great job. And the new site looks great. I like how you got the pictures of the flashcarts up on the review page.

Lol, actually, I was thought I was a little harsh with the DLDI in terms of the score.  I took a point from functionality because it had not auto-patcher, points that I plan to give back when it is released.  Which I really hope will happen.

Even though I thought that the other G6DS Real reviews weren't too fair, I think it is always good to take a look around all the other reviews.

Thanks for the complement.  :)  The idea of the pictures of the flashcarts are Clauf's idea, and his work.  I don't even know where the pictures come from.

Does anyone have the dl play compatibility of the slot 2's?  I think that those match these since they could already download play some games anyway.  Thats something I'm really wondering about right now and I think you were light on the DLDI thing because it probably will come but it's not here.  reviews should be on whats happened now and can be updated later accordingly.  I appreciate reviews that are updated so that you know how they are progressing and how they eventually turn out, you shouldn't turn your review into one of the old neo-flash ones where they have the "potential" to do everything. I'm just throwing that question and I liked everything else about the review.  It was very clean and easy to follow.

Mine just arrived today, and I am extremely happy with it. Your review was dead on Pharaoh.

Once this cart gets its DLDI auto patcher, it's definitely going to be the best internal memory flash cart that there currently is.

Oh...and you know how I was worried about the chip? Well I can barely feel it sticking out when I rub my finger across it. So it doesn't scrape when its inserted into the USB writer, or when it's in the DS. So it's nothing like the Moddz.com review was making it sound to be.

Don't worry, eventually you will see scratches from the USB thing.  :)  At first, I reported that there was no problems.  But after gradual use, these fine scratches started appearing.

h8uthemost

Really? Can you like feel it scraping when you put it in the USB writer in? Because i'm not feeling any scraping.

And do the scratches actually dig out some of the sticker, or are they just little light scratches that dont do anything?

I didn't feel anything, it feels like it was perfectly made for it.  But after shoving it in and out a couple dozen times transferring files for those terribly annoying download play tests, I noticed scratches.  They don't dig in, nor can you really notice them.  They are those scratches that you have to hold the cart at an angle in the light to see.  Once again, barely noticeable.  But I don't know, maybe they'll get worse over time.

That's cool. It doesn't really sound like anything big. I was first using the cart in a original DS. But now I've been using it in my Lite, and it is a little snugger fit. But still, not hard to get in and out at all.

And I've wrote a few roms already, and I couldn't believe how quickly they wrote. I've been use to writing to my DS-Linker, and that's kind of slow. But writing them to this G6 DS, they are a lot quicker. I think almost as quick as they write to my R4. Almost.

I have really been interested on one of these. This was the most intelligent and articulate review I've seen. I'm a big fan of digital swiss army knoves.

I do have a few questions if you don't mind:

-I'm interested in the PDA functionality. If you do a firmware upgrade, do you loose all you PDA data (names, addresses, etc.)?

-Have you tried the DS web browser on it?

-Have you tried video playback?

-Have you tried MP3 playback?

-Have you tried any other of the emus mentioened on their site, (GBC, NES, Sega, etc.)?

Thanks again for the geat review.

1.  If you do a firmware upgrade, the PDA functionality does not change whatsoever.  However, if the PDA function gets updated (never happened before) you might want to consult the readme.

2.  Yes I have, and it works normally.

3.  Video playback is the same as any other flash cart, it uses .DPG, which is very high quality, but very compact as well.  However, I find converting a drag.

4.  MP3's are perfect quality if you use headphones, and they sound great on the normal DS, however, the DS Lite has subpar speakers, and the sound might sound a little muffled.

5.  The emulators works just like any other flash cart because they are third party software and not the G6 Team's software.  Basically most of them run pretty well, but being third party homebrew applications, they do have their fair share of bugs.

I hope this clears things up for you.  And I'm glad you enjoyed the review.

Thanks,
PharaohsVizier

Your review was good but you left out a major point... The "pdaDS". There is no PDA software on the unit. Mines came with OS/Firmware 1.2. "pdaDS" not there. I updated to OS/Firmware 2.0a.. No "pdaDS" software. I searched on several sites and nothing. From your post I'm understanding your "pdaDS" does work (is present).

PharaohsVizier

The pdaDS does work, it is just not bundled right off the bat with the G6DS, you must use the G6 Lite's pdaDS.
