I use a program called Ultra Edit, with it you can open 2 files inside, use the mouse to select the desired bytes and it tells you the number in the bottom bar, then go to the other file, select they bytes (each character is a byte, the left side gives hex values and 2 of those makes a byte, the right side gives ascii characters, one of those makes 2 hex values which is a byte) where you want to paste to (making sure to select the same number of them) and paste-o-change-o.

Musta been tired before, that last post I coulda swore I tossed in a DOS command or something... not sure why I took the QPC out of the readme though  :(  sure am tired now. Been alot of years since I went tracking down bugs in software I wrote and actually wanted to finish ;)

Fix it in another day or something, at any rate, EToolSMS 2.0 is up now and a couple bugfixes for ETool3, making it 3.12G (the G means I added code so it will start on a G6, but changes nothing really...)

The only other real DS game I have besides metroid prime hunters demo is the japanese harvest moon game I imported (because I'm a harvest moon addict -_-) so I figured I'd copy the save from there using this tool and use it on the rom so I wouldn't have to carry it around... but sadly, the saves lock up the game.

The fact that the saves appear at all means that the internal checksum of the save checks out... so I'm not sure why it's not working. The only theory I have is that there are 2 versions of the game (which there are, this has been confirmed by owners, even if there is only 1 version of the rom out) since I know I have an early version of the game (the first releases had several errors that'd cause lockups which I have experienced), and this rom is relatively new to be released I'm guessing it could be version 1.1.

Since the original versions were having a lot of crashes, I wouldn't be surprised if there were enough changes between the two versions that the saves would be incompatible, but still have the same headers, etc so that one version could see the saves, see that they were for that specific game and that the checksum worked out.

Either that, or I'm just reading waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much into this and something happened between trying to copy the save from my original cart and transferring the save to the SC.

Give this one a go and see if you can open saves from it:
http://nds.cmamod.com/HM_test.zip (copy paste the link if this site is still protected from redirects)

It should be from the older version, I grabbed it from the Max Drive online community - be interesting to see if it works as well.

You are probably right though, if you have the updated cart then likely they fixed alot of things as best they could and didnt really expect anyone to use the save from one cart on another...

-frowns- Hmm... can't even get this one to show up as a save on my SC. Oh well, it's not a huge deal. I was thinking about starting over anyways. Saves work fine on the game after I write over the old ones.
