hi everybody, i just got my brand new scds:1 ordered and shipped along with a sandisk 2gb microsd. i ran downloading and copying latest files from supercard.cn and the new, clean roms i was keeping away for this joyful day. well, guess what?
the os loads right away, not a problem, but whenever i try to load a ds rom i get the dreadful white screen of death.

i tried setting sd speed, saver size, i tried patching roms for the sd, and enabling/disabling patch.

no way i can't get anything to work, just moonshell and nothing else.

how can i try to understand what is the problem?

you need to patch your roms.  use the software off of the supercard website to patch your roms.  also, make sure your using the right options.. check out the supercard list to set the right options for your rom to boot

Raysiel does not need to patch the roms he has  DSONE not a slot 2 card :)

you really only need to copy the roms to the mem card and then set the saver size just before you start the rom :)

@Raysiel please be patient and await more answers not everyone visits the forum at the same time or here all the time to answer every question  :)

Im sure someone will be along soon to help with your question/problem :)

Raysiel

ayup thank you.

i'll keep on waiting and in the meanwhile i'm off to make tests with different brands of micro sd

Hi

I think you have a defective supercard. Ask the store for a refund.

i thought the same thing.. but there are 2 issues...
1-it was an online store, so i can only contact them via email
2-there was a nice sticker on the sd wrapping saying something like "opening package voids warranty". well not exactly warranty, here in italy we have a thing that lets you take anything back in the store and get your money back within 7 days from the purchase. THAT is the thing voided by opening the package -.-

You should be protected by the DISTANCE SELLING LAWS :) this covers web purchases usually upto 6 months after initial purchase I would seriously look into this as a voided warrenty opening the box is a load of s**t reason is how the hell are you supposed to even inspect the goods have not been damaged in transit without opening the box!

you should also fall under the EUROPEAN SALES OF GOODS ACT which is the same as the uk one :)

Quote
Sale of Goods Act Quick Facts
Subject: Sale of Goods Act, Faulty Goods.

Relevant or Related Legislation:  Sale of Goods Act 1979. Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994. The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.

Key Facts:

• Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).

•  Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description.

•  Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety.

•  It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.

• If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back "within a reasonable time". (This is not defined and will depend on circumstances)

• For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).

• A purchaser who is a consumer, i.e. is not buying in the course of a business, can alternatively request a repair or replacement.

• If repair and replacement are not possible or too costly, then the consumer can seek a partial refund, if they have had some benefit from the good, or a full refund if the fault/s have meant they have enjoyed no benefit

• In general, the onus is on all purchasers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty) and should have reasonably lasted until this point in time (i.e. perishable goods do not last for six years).

• If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty)

• After six months and until the end of the six years, it is for the consumer to prove the lack of conformity.

your issue falls within the first catagory reason its not doing what it should do ie its not even working opening package to void warrenty is the biggest load of crap ive seen in a long while your basic consumer rights should override this fact that how can you inspect brand new goods when you cant even open it !? :)

email them and ask for a replacement and quote the sale of goods act and the point ive highlighted here ...and tell them you have already consulted legal advice on this matter and that your fully entitled to get a replacement as its an item not fit for purpose / • If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back "within a reasonable time". (This resonable time is not defined and will depend on circumstances)[/b]  (and see how they respond  :)

when you send it back obtain proof of postage etc and keep it safe  :)

The scds1 has onboard patching of the roms, you most likely need that as well.

Use L+A to bring down the top menu to the touchscreen.

Touch other and choose enable patch at the bottom of the menu.

Then you can turn on/off a bunch of choices.

Just make sure you save. ;)

on a second thought... how could the card be defective if the OS loads and works?

Try to copy over a video or something that is near the full size of your card and try to copy it back to make sure your card isn't messing with you. Try to reformat the card as both FAT32 and FAT16. Make sure you don't have dozens of files on the root folder of your card - copy them to a subfolder. Make sure you don't have strange characters in the directory or filenames. Make sure the saver is set right.

You say Moonshell works. Does it fully work? Can you play MP3s and Videos and stuff?

update: i had a suspect... and i tried putting rom 14 on the card (pac pix). it works perfectly.

so i guess it is a card speed issue, am i wrong?
i tested it with "recent" roms (pokemon pearl, brain age, ff3) and it never worked...

Raysiel

re bump:
so after a lot of tries i realized that only low weight roms manage to work with this card, so it must be a speed issue.

which is the fastest micro sd available on the market at the moment?

Reformat your memory card as FAT. Verify your ROMS with OfflineList and the ADVANsCEne .dat file for NDS.

You shouldn't need to patch ROMs for SCDS1, only if your memory card is too slow. Turn off every option but speed patch by pressing L+X in the OS menu. You can check if your memory card is too slow by slecting the Auto set SD Speed from the options menu.  Here are the results of testing three different memory cards. Understand 25 is a better result than 5.
