Call of Duty 4 - Modern Wars

Preview by IGN http://ds.ign.com/articles/801/801853p1.html

If you're a next-generation console owner, you're probably well aware of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. After all, the Activision-published first-person shooter sequel looks to best its already-impressive predecessors in just about every regard, from sheer, brutal intensity to outstanding graphics. But did you know that the Santa Monica-based company has been quietly working on a DS version of the title, too? If not, now you do.

Call of Duty 4 for DS is actually developed by a studio well-known to Nintendo fans. It created Geist for Nintendo GameCube. It has several Wii titles in the works. Still stumped? We're referring to n-Space, of course. The Florida-situated software house has been underway with the handheld iteration of Modern Warfare for some time, and we recently got to go eyes-on with some footage of the game in motion. Although early, the game not only ran smoothly, but it easily spit out large 3D environments than we've seen in most polygonal DS efforts, and the action was constantly complemented by well-placed scripted scenarios, from exploding buildings to crashing aircraft in the backdrop.

Unfortunately, we can't yet show you that footage, although we're confident that if we could you'd be wowed. What we can do is bring you the first official interview with producer Sam Nouriani alongside world debut screenshots.

Fucking A!  Finally we get a modern tactical shooter on the DS.

if this has a good framerate its gonna blow brothers in arms away.... faar away

I really hope the multiplayer has some bots so that there will be some replay value after you've completed the single player missions.

We have a saying over at Dual Screen Radio ... No video, no purchase.

The reason we're not seeing video at this time, guarenteed, is because of frame rate issues.  BIA was impressive - even with the framerate issues - but no one wants to give away a game's limitations in advance.

Still, the screenshots look encouraging and we can never get enough pure console experiences on the DS - bad framerate or not.

Bah, the game looks great, but I have yet to play a FPS game on the DS where I didn't want to throw the DS through a window due to the controls.

......waits for NT's "strap on" suggestion.......

I agree with you. I really dont mind the framrates in BIA because its actually pretty good. but we needed bots and screen sensitivity.  For some reason i am so good and that game, 90% of my kills are head but i suck at metroid, i like the graphics but hate. i just dont get good at it. i love metroid fusion though :smitten:

Hopefully these call of duty is a metroid and BIA put together, that would be something.

I got railed over at DSR for suggesting more shooters on the DS.   :P

You can't satisfy a DS shooter with a measly stylus.  Gotta get a "strap on".

Yes, stylus sensitivity is the main beef I have with BIA.  Takes forever to turn around.

i thought that too, but actually kills and headshots are listed seperately, ie

you get 14 kills
you get 13 headshots
in the match you actually got 27 kills, i realised this when i played a level and got more headshots than kills :P

Looks really good... Hope the framerate is at least as good as Brothers In Arms DS. At least now the touch screen displays a map instead of a grid.

For those of you who didn't bother reading the article, the interviewee says that the engine driving the game, "...delivers totally fluid performance all the time, even when there is a ton of stuff happening on the screen." Unfortunately there is no mention of online play :(
My Music

Nearly all of my songs are made with Fruity Loops, except for one where I used Reason. I recommend looking at my ambient stuff, and staying away from old songs, which are pretty crappy.

Yeah, it's hard for me to get excited for an FPS on the DS. I was let down way too much by Hunters. And that's hard for me to type since Metroid is probably all time favorite series.

The touch screen is no substitute for a couple analog sticks.
