My DS Lite is dying (thanks to the Nyko Grip Charge?)

I'm a supercard SD user with a DS Lite that I bought used.  A few days ago I bought the Nyko Grip Charger, which is really a neat accessory that gives you a good comfortable grip on the ds, 8 extra hours battery life, and lets you charge both systems simultaneously.

Well I was playing some game as I was charging it for the night, and I closed the lid and put it into standby mode, as I was too tired to continue playing.  The next morning, both the lights are off so I figure, great, they're charged.  I turn on the DS and it gives me the red light.  It ends up that my AC Adapter blew overnight, because I went to Best Buy and bought another to make sure.

But now, even after I charge up my DS Lite for some reason when I'm playing any game it will randomly either soft reset about 5 times (or indefinitely until I turn it off and on again) or just shut itself off.  I ordered a replacement battery just figuring it is a used DS so it's battery might just be old and I happened to put a lot of strain on it to make it perform inconsistently.

Does anyone know anything about this sort of thing or am I the only one experiencing this?

of the power adapter blew it may of SPIKED the ds and caused an intermittent internal fault ..suggestion would be get it exchanged under warrenty just dont tell em that you had been using the grip charger  ;)

send the busted adapter with it and they wont blame the other adapter you bought if its a none standard nintendo one for the damage  :)

fingers crossed they will exchange free of charge under warrenty :)

I didn't get it under warranty :(  I got it used.

If the new battery doesn't resolve anything, I'm just going to buy a new DS Lite, and have hold onto the second one until I feel like spendin the money to get it repaired.

So no one thinks that buying a new NDS Lite battery might help? :/

there's only 2 or 3 ways the charger could have "blew". 1) your mains got hit by lightning (or something along those lines) and it burnt out the adapter. 2) the adapter overloaded because the device as a whole, was drawing current greater than what could be supplied. 3) manufacturing fault, adapter had bad capacitors (and so forth).

I'm guessing 2) is probably most likley. your charger had to supply current for the ds, the battery and this other device, then burnt out. the only thing which doesn't make sense would be that this shouldn't have affected the DS.

If you go with 1) then the ds should be completely inoperable if components got damaged.

I don't know what's at fault. but you should be able to return it to nintendo, just say it was a gift or a prize then they won't ask for a receipt. you could always complain to the manufacturer of the accessory, see what they have to say.

Just emailed Nyko.

I think the damages may have had to do with my Supercard SD being in the system...

Supposedly it does draw quite a bit more power than a DS Card, and maybe charging the battery, providing power for the DS and the SCSD, and charging the grips might have done it.

But yeah the damage is still mysterious.  I'm hoping that the battery is just fluctuating power or something from being subjected to strange voltages.
But still, if Nyko would pay for my stuff that'd be awesome.

I've got stealth flashme on, considering I knew I'd have to get it repaired eventually instead of just buying a new DS (If I hadn't just taken a vacation and spent 300 bucks on travel, I would)  I've already sent an email to an ebay repair guy in Pittsburgh to explain my situation and see if he can repair it.

Go to nintendo.com... I sent a DS back without a receipt / proof of purchase and they replaced it for free.  You can check the serial if I recall correctly.

it's good they have an office in the same country, i'd half expected they'd be based somewhere in the far east.

Not just that.  I just went on lunch break so I gave the guy a call, and he sounded a little skeptical about the chain of events, considering no one (seriously, no one) has made that sort of claim before.  He asked me to package my DS and the charger grips in a box, and he gave me their UPS account number, so I could send them to their facility.

They're going to send me a brand new DS Lite and a new Nyko Grip Charger.  Which is pretty rad if I say so myself  ;)  I might put a little note in there asking that they replace my white POS with an Onyx one if they've got it  ;D

But now I have a semi-issue, because I need to make sure it actually crashes on DS games, rather than just the stuff passed from Slot-2.  That means I've got a lot of Mario Kart & Super Mario 64 DS to play through, not to mention Tales of Phantasia (my latest GBA grind) to make sure my problem actually shows when they get it.

If not, it still doesn't matter ^_^ Knowing how the corporate world works, I'm sure my DS will just get shipped off to some department and I'll get my replacement before they ever even get a chance to look at it.

And all they ask for is a brief description of what happened and my full contact information.  I figure if they find out that I had the firmware flashed or that I was using an unauthorized product (besides THEIRS of course  8) ) then the worst they'd do is send me a bill.

And I was just gonna buy a new DS anyway, since the fixing rate is like 60-75 dollars.

I'm never buying used again.  Go refurbished!

My battery on my DS is getting to be more short lived too, but that's because I'm using it all the time, and then recharging it.

Luckily, before I had to resort to buying a $5 replacement battery, a crack formed on the right hinge. Score!

I'll be replacing it as soon as the battery gets to be too much of a hassle. Thanks Nintendo!

I got this in the mail this morning.  It looks fishy to me, like they knew I had my firmware flashed and didn't mind.  In fact, it sounds like not only did they not mind, but they sent me a brand new DS and flashed it's firmware FOR me O_O

Your new (stealth!) DS Lite and Charger Grip shipped today via UPS,
tracking number 1z_______________. Feel free to contact me again if
you require any further assistance.

I want to inquire about the stealth part but I might want to keep my mouth shut until it comes in the mail :P

STEALTH bombers are BLACK lol ;D

You'll spend hours looking in the box for it and you'll never find it because of this new 'stealth' feature. It's pretty cost effective for companies. ;) :P
