Supercard Lite Clarification Needed

Hey guys, I'm getting an SC Lite very soon, and just need to clear stuff up. I own a Supercard MiniSD so I am familiar with terms such as DLDI.

Firstly, recovering bricked SC Lites. I've heard numerous reports of people bricking their SC Lite by downgrading/upgrading. Question: how do I recover a bricked SC Lite? I have a Supercard MiniSD (as mentioned above) and would like to know about this "Hot Swapping" technique

Secondly, updating firmware. If I recall, you can directly upgrade an SC MiniSD from firmware 1.63 to 1.81. Can the same be said with an SC Lite? Or do I have to upgrade in stages? (I'm guessing the former)

Thirdly, homebrew. Do I patch my homebrew (Such as DSOrganize) with DLDI, Supercard Magic Homebrew Patcher, or this "moonshell patcher"

Thanks for the input guys  :)

EDIT: Sorry, I want to ask one more thing: Homebrew with the .sc.nds extension will work even if I rename the extension to .nds on my SC Lite, right? Thanks again

First of all, it is never recommended to go from 1.63 to 1.81 on any device.  Ever.  Previously, we thought that you could go from 1.7 to 1.81 safely, but we later found that this broke the built-in emulators.  Therefore, go from 1.63 to 1.7 to 1.80 (get the update.scu file from the Chinese site since they removed it from the English site) to 1.81.

Honestly I don't know what the Moonshell patcher does, so you probably will not need to use it.  The Supercard Magic Homebrew Patcher is for apps that come in *.nds format only and won't boot on the Supercard as a result.  In general, it's best to use the *.ds.gba versions, renamed to *.sc.nds so that the Supercard boots it in DS mode.  If the *.sc.nds is already available, use that (though you can indeed rename to just *.nds if you want).  Note however that your probably should not have to use the Supercard Magic Homebrew Patcher all that often, as most plain *.nds files actually work fine now.  There are just a few programs that won't work unless they have the *.ds.gba header attached to the front of the file, which is what the SCMHP adds.

DLDI patching is completely different.  DLDI is for making sure the program knows how to talk to the filesystem of your card.  It won't do a thing if the file won't boot at all due to not having the header attached to the front.

So basically, if it doesn't boot at all, run it through the SCMHP.  If it boots but can't access the filesystem, patch with DLDI.

Thanks man, that really cleared things up for me  :)

Is there a tutorial for unbricking SC Lites using the hot-swap technique?

EDIT: Nevermind, found one at the official web. For those who wanna know,

Q: How to recover the LOST firmware? (Just for SuperCard CF, SD & MiniSD version)
A: When firmware lost, SuperCard CF, SD & MiniSD can not boot. Player can not run the firmware upgrade program to recover the firmware. There is a way to recover the firmware.
Before recover the firmware, player should prepare something:
# 1. A NDS/NDSL console. GBA/GBASP can not be used, because it will reset when plug out the cartridge from slot.
# 2. A good SuperCard CF, SD or MiniSD. We will be in brief "A".
# 3. The bad SuperCard CF, SD or MiniSD which need to be recovered. We will be in brief "B".
# 4. The recover program "Flashmp.rar" (click to download) which made by Darkfader.
Step by Step to recover the lost firmware:
# 1. Unzip the flashmp.rar, copy the flashmp.nds to flash memory card.
# 2. Use "A" to run flashmp.nds. There are some messages display on the down screen.
# 3. Before press the button, swap "B" into Slot 2.
# 4. Hold L+R and press Right can recover CF version, Hold L+R and press Up can recover SD & MiniSD version.
# 5. After press buttons, 5 seconds later, "Done!!!" will appear. That mean it works.
# 6. Now, the "B" firmware will be recover to 1.52 version. It can work now. Please download the newest full version firmware from Download Page to upgrade. (1.70 is a FULL version firmware)
