Some guy on the gbadev forums is making a X-com:Enemy Unknown port.

Judging from the posts he's been making, he almost has the battlescape part of the game finished. That means he still has to start on the geoscape part of the game, but at the pace he's been going at he'll get it done eventually. I love the X-com series, so I can't wait.

That's amazing!  It's hard to believe the DS has room for such a complex UI

This was voted best PC game of all time by IGN.   Sounds interesting, but very confusing.

You mean you haven't played it?  It's really good, and nowadays really cheap.  It even runs *OK* on windows XP, although you'll need to save frequently because of crashes.

Basically you start from scratch with very little more than a handful of soldiers and a lot of cash.  You've gotta go from that to attacking the alien homeworld.  You capture technology, research new inventions, dissect aliens to learn their weaknesses, fight ground battles in urban environments, rural environments, your own base, and enemy bases.  It's pure genius.  Nowadays everything's got to be simple, it seems like we'll never see anything like it again.

Well, I am only 15.  Not exactly a huge retro gamer either.
