On a serious side there is no such thing as FAIR USE of copying/backing up YOUR OWN STUFF it the law on that one JUST DOES NOT EXIST so when you transfer that album to your I-POD or phone etc its still PIRACY but in a smaller form!

listen to your music on the bus/out and about REALLY LOUD .. then technically you need a licence as you are PUBLIC BROADCASTING your music and other people can hear it!

record that favorite program on your VIDEO RECORDER (if you still use one) or DVD RECORDER and watch it round your mates .. then thats a BIG NO NO that too is PUBLIC PERFORMANCE or REBROADCAST without a licence!

the laws are that messed up regarding whats legal and whats illegal out there REAL PIRACY does not seem that bad!

one major factor is .. even if its FREE or DIRT CHEAP people will still always PIRATE or copy stuff regardless and no matter what people do they cannot stop them .. If information can be read in whatever format then it can infact be copied/duplicated backed up or transferred there is NO WAY possible to stop it!

If I steal the truck from you then you no longer have the ford truck. You cannot drive it any longer. But I think to myself after stealing it, "Well I wouldn't of bought the thing myself anyway, so the truck company isn't lousing any money." BUT that's not a fair claim, because although the truck company isn't lousing money, YOU deVs are lousing a truck.

Now say I download the truck. Er... download the truck... well... Okay, Say I download the truck in the year 2,300. 
I press download on my Portable yet super-powerful PC and the truck appears on my driveway. And I think to myself after stealing it "Well, I wouldn't of bought the thing myself anyway, so the truck company isn't lousing any money." And not only that, but neither the truck company OR anyone else is lousing money.

See why I see piracy as something much better than stealing???

When you download something you get a free copy of an item that was meant for purchase, it's stealing. They do loose money if you download something because you get their product and they don't get your money.

But DeVs, that's flawed.   Don't get me wrong, Piracy is still wrong, but in comparison to stealing, it's actually slightly better.  Why?  When an item is stolen, someone loses (In this case, Retailer) AND something isn't gained (In this case, Retailer, and original company [Possibly, as the retailer may just purchase another copy from them.]).  When an item is Pirated, something isn't gained.  (Retailer again, as the item isn't purchased from them.  Company as well, if extra copies end up not selling.)

Bottom of the line, though, Stop taking stuff from people, you assholes, and stop stopping people from making money!  Or go ahead and do that, I'm in no position to stop you, I guess.

Edit:  On second thought, the above is rather flawed...  Stealing hurts the retailer, piracy hurts the developer.  I guess that means in essence, it's more proper to steal an item than to pirate it, as retailers upmark the hell outta things.  Unless it's a windows product.  Then it's okay to pirate it, cause it's not worth the money you'd spend on it, and the retailer should learn not to have it as a product, and the developer should learn how the hell to make efficient coding [They can do it with some versions of DirectX, so why not the OS?!  Argh!]

Piracy isnt that bad, think of the world without it but as long as not every one pirates then its fine. So what if you download a song of a P2P Client, what if you are in a wheel chair and have no access to a car and cant get to a store to buy it you'd have to use a P2P client to download it.


BTW, The reason I didnt say to download off Itunes was because every one knows that they put subliminl messages in the songs to make you buy McDonalds
