im thinking of getting a jap ps3 for Christmas importing it will save over 200 quid (my vista upgrade has deleted the pound sign), is there a way to change the ps3 menu into english, and is there a way to run ps3 backups on the ps3 maybe by sending them over the internet or something. this is important for me to know as i like to play back ups alot (i keep scratching my disks and on my psp they load faster), id love to know thankyou.

The Japanese PS3 menu can be set to English and will ask to select the language when you first start up. So far there is no way to play backups on PS3. There have been some rumors floating around about a TIFF exploit for playing PS1 backups, but no reliable confirmation.  Obviously it's always possible to change the PS3 firmware with a JTAG reader/writer so PS3 will be hacked eventually, but it would be nice if a simple HEN exploit was found (like PSP) that didn't require opening the PS3.

MODS are not far away as far as I know ps3 game isos have been doing the rounds for some time now... you can however use the TIFF EXPLOIT on certain versions of PS3 to run erm backup games well almost  

older firmware versions than 1001 can use the exploit

the downfall is BLUE RAY doh! the isos for some are MASSIVE as blue ray can stretch to 25gb

holly crap 25 gig i forgot the ps3 was blue ray for a second, but i suppose in about a decade we will be thinking that 25 gig is nothing, and there will be a higher definition tv or well be using virtual reality somthing.. (probably, if we carry on with the leaps and bounds were making at the moment)
but hey at least ill get it 200 pound cheaper its a ps3 for godsake, at 242 pound who wouldn't buy it, i dont really need backwards compatibility and i dont play online (exept for  when i get my wii ill need internet for the shop channel ill just get the lan adapter). but i have to complete my sony games console collection, i almost have for my Nintendo i just need a visual boy and a gamecube, and after those two ill get an xbox and a 360.

Ya I got a feeling it will be easier to make our own PS3 game backs up rather then try and download a 25gig game,lol.

the other issue with importing is the power cable ... you will need a power cable to fit your socket type



guessing here that you mentioned the pound earlier so you will need to source a proper UK POWER PLUG for it as no doubt importing it it will come with a 2 pin power plug not a UK 3 pin plug what we are used to

thats no problem, i know a hardware shop in Sutton that sells those socket box's/extension sockets that fit into uk plugs but have sockets from usa, japan and a few other country's

Either that or just call sony and tell them you didnt get one in the box and they will/should send you one free of charge

ill try that (dose it work with controllers , id rather get a free controller lol  )
and i cant wait till i get it, but its gonna be in a while not just yet
