Hey all, I currently have a ds lite which has this problem.
On powering it LED will go green --> green high and power off. The bottom lcd does power and shuts off. I included a video on youtube that shows the exact same symptom described.

The ds lite also has a broken hinge and I suspect its the top lcd ribbon cable is not seated properly or ripped. However I do hear speaker noise during the power up like a "click sound" and thats it, which suggests that there maybe some power going through the ribbon?

I'm aware it could be also a blown fuse problem but I don't know the symptoms if its exactly the same as described above.

I cant check it right now since I haven't received my tri-wing screw driver and haven't opened it up yet. So my question is has anyone encountered the same problem and has a fix for it.

Thanks so much.

Ya it's the ribbon cable, im 100% sure of it. Thats what my DS was doing when I replaced the shell and didn't have the ribbon cable seated firmly enough. My nephew cracked his case exactly in the same spot as the video DS and I just bought a Shock Case replacement shell and fixed it up.

They wont if the corner is broke off like the video above. They cover some issues but not if you break off a chunk of it,lol. They have even started to deny people free fixes for the "cracked hinge" problems.

DeVS is right, i called them about 2 weeks ago for the crack hinge problem, and they told me this was considered physical damage and the "known crack hinge" problem is different than the problem im having, which is total BS, and i would need to pay $75 to get it repaired. I got pissed off and hung up on them, and had my wife call them this time, i think since she didnt know that much about the whole crack hinge issue, and could not answer some questions they asked her, it was better for her, as she was able to get an advanced replacement at no charge, they just needed a CC, in case we didnt send back the bad unit, and we got a replacement unit in 3 days, and everything is working great now.

erm maby erm superglue !? lol

can't be the first one like that out there .. they must of replaced a few by now ??

I've seen loads of photos all over the net with people having the same issue the hinge breaking and the light/corner part breaking clean off!

I would say its a pretty common fault if there is more than at least four or five with the same fault then surely thats down to a fault in the production of that particular batch  :)

maby its worth asking if its still within warrenty they can only say yes or no ... maby argue the case that its OBVIOUSLY not a single case as there are so many reports/evidence out there with the same fault  :)

My DSlite also had the problem where the right hand hinge broke off, after bitching and a few nintendo reps i got it fixed for free. About the problem with it turning on and turning off i have to guess its your motherboard aka logic board, I opened up my sons nds phat :tard: and when i put it back together i had the same problem your having. The way i fixed it was buying him a Ds lite but you can buy logic boards online, use google and see if there is a store you trust to buy from.

DeV I did a shock case as well. Im still stumped im still getting the same problem after reseating the top lcd ribbon several times. I was examining the ribbon cable and it does have a few kinks but Im totally sure yet if I should order a new lcd assembly just yet.

I'm going to check the fuses next tonight and see if they busted but most likely its the ribbon still.

Ya make sure the ribbon for the bottom screen is in there tight and even. When I was doing it, the ribbon looked like it was in there but I noticed it was uneven (where one end was sticking out more then the other). After about 4 adjustments it finally all worked correctly.

I tried reseating the bottom lcd several times and it was pretty even. Still did the same thing. I took a good look at the top lcd ribbon and its pretty beat up, so most likely thats why its not booting properly. I ended up ordering a new top lcd assembly kind of waste though, perfectly working lcd just a bad ribbon. It will be arriving monday, and then I have to reassemble it again it's such a pain. The shock case screw holes are alot smaller than the original nintendo housing.

Hi

With the warranty, Arguing often gets you what you want. If for whatever reason the new touch screen doesn't work, You should try arguing with Nintendo.
