I am going to stay away as well. I mean i have dvd players and a mod xbox which is designed to run dvds. No need to screw up my wii with this. Especially since the new USA wii are getting the dreaded D2C chip, makes no sense with that alone as a reason.

I could be wrong but I believe the GC and Wii lasers are not constantly reading the disc. I believe it loads info into ram plays from there and only access the disc when it needs more info. DVD moves are constantly being accessed by the dvd laser.

Also GC games are not just mini-DVD's they use a proprietary file system and GC laser's read them differently then a normal dvd laser reads dvd movies. just because they look like DVD's doesn't mean they are. A cd looks like a dvd but it is not.

That sounds logical.  I have an impression that games that are continuously read to play result in faster worn GC lenses.  Eternal Darkness comes to mind and perhaps there are more.  Normally the disc stops spinning after loading the game levels... or at least, I think.
