Hey.
Which Pocket PC do you think is the best all-round? Consider the price, features, and all the other things good PDA's have.

I don't want a phone.

I would prefer Windows Mobile 6.

I instant message a lot.

I like using external memory (SD Cards are best for me)

If your not a lawyer or Dr. you have no need for a pda thats not a phone. Hell I don't even know if anyone even makes JUST pda's anymore. Sony, HP, and Dell all discontinued their line of pda's. Why would you want one thats not a phone? I have the Sprint Mogul thats a pda phone and runs Windows mobile 6. I had an HP pda but sold it last year because there is literally NO use for them besides using the appointment functions. The phone pda's have more use cause you can use them to surf the net with your mobile plan where ever you are, ect.

If your dead set on a pda though you will most likely have to buy a used one and would probably want the HP version.

well, i want something like a computer i can carry around with me.  any suggestions?

I have one of these guys: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/ASUS-A636.htm

This one is cool because it has a GPS receiver built in. It's fast enough that I can play any non-HD video on it without transcoding. I got it used for $300, though. I don't know if it's worth the $500 I see it for online now. WM5, too.

You have to ask yourself, though, what do you want it for? The biggest use for mine is driving directions. It's nice to be able to watch videos wirelessly anywhere in my house but I never really do that to be honest. I can use it for an appointment calendar but I don't really do that either and I could use DSOrganize if I wanted.

actually, the Nokia N800 looks tempting...  do you know the different im services available on it?

DeVS

But a little computer for what? Are you going to be doing word processing on it or something? If it's not a phone pda you wont be surfing the net or instant messaging on it, there are some emulators for stuff like nes,ect but the buttons on it SUCK hard for playing emu's. Bout the only semi cool thing you can do with them is play video and even then there are better products to do that then a pda. It's like wanting to buy a cassette player in the age of ipods, lol.

But like I said the HP ipaq's were nice.

i've been keeping my eye out for something like that too. basically, a portable fully-fledged dedicated internet browser, but not sure such device exists.

until i get that magical device, i've been using the ds browser and beup, though the browser on the psp is slightly better. a lot of my friends have one of those mda things (a phone with touch screen, wifi, keyboard, gps, etc) but if i had one, it'll only be to collect dust. i also went through several pdas and as good as they were, i just never used them.

i hate the psp browser becuase it keeps saying i have to enable conserve memory.  i would use the psp one, but that keeps pissing me off

o, adn the stupid 'keyboard'

socket

I'm still digging my blackberry.  I have it through T-Mobile.  You can get unlimited data for $30/month with no voice plan or $20 with a voice plan.  Windows mobile has lots more apps though.  And if you just want to IM and browse, try the sidekick.  Just my thoughts.

theres no t-mobile in canada

does the pocket pc have extra charges if you dont have a phone in it?

DeVS

Well if you get a pda with wifi built it it would not cost you any money to connect it to your own wifi. Your looking at about $400 for a pda and if your just gonna use it to browse the net from bed your wasting your money. The mylo looks interesting, have not had a chance to get my hands on one, but again your gonna have to pay $300 to get one and it only connects via a wifi connection so you wont be able to use it unless your by a wifi connection.
