I installed FrontMotion Loging, but didnt like it.  I uninstalled it by using Add/Remove programs in the Conrtol Panel.  Now I can tget into the welcome screen.  it just says that the comp coudlnt find the FMLogin.dll and i should replace it or sumthing.  plz help.

im using windows xp, btw

hmm, i googled the .dll and it doesn't seem like a windows system file.

my first thought is the app files got removed but windows still think it's installed and tries looking for it. now before you go and reformat the computer, see if you can log in under safe mode (press F8 whilst computer is booting up).

if you can get in, go to start>run type in "msconfig" (without quotes), a box should come up and go to the startup tab. untick anything that mentions frontmotion and reboot. hopefully, this will tell windows to stop trying to load it. if you still can't log in, it might be worth reinstalling FMlogin for a temp solution (or a windows restore).

if you can't even get into safe mode, i suggest you hop onto their website/forum for assistance.

i cant get into the welcome screen...

mudlouse1

did you try booting to safe mode?

Vapourstreak

it only gets up to the windows xp logo with the loading thing

Kkan, if he can't get to the desktop using safe mode then how is he going to use system restore?

Vapourstreak, the only option I can think is re-install XP over your previous install, or create a second XP installation. That way you can still get to your important files.

point taken but sometimes it doesnt always goto safemode if there is an issue so best to keep trying at least a couple of times :)

you could always use a boot disk such as HIRENS and try manually edit the config files but thats only if you know what yer looking for etc :)

Use a Linux live CD like Ubuntu to back up your important files

We really need to know if you can get into safe mode or not. I'd be very surprised if you can't.

sorry to keep harping on about this, but did you try going into safe mode?

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm#02

you enter select safe mode before the xp loading or welcome screen.

keep pressing F8 when you turn on the computer, do you see a list of options? (see the link above).

just to repeat myself, it's worth looking for support on the software developer's website and their forums.

that's not certain to work, i'd only ever do a install over the existing if i had corrupted system files (because the reinstall restores them). the file that's missing isn't a windows system file. also installing over the top, in many cases, preserves a lot of the program settings/registries/etc so it may still try to load that app.

The alternative is to remove the hard disk, make it a slave and use another computer to get your files off.

I have had the same problem recently (solved by buying a new machine- after 8 instals of an OEM copy of XP[on the same machine] MS was getting fed up with me.

The system froze at the begining of the desktop opening. I was able to boot in safe mode, but the system restore did not work so I had to use the file transfer protocol (under programs, accessories). This (with an external hard drive) allowed for the transfer of all of the files.

Vapourstreak

@ fexo:  im too scared to try that
@ everyone else:  i got into safe mode.  sry for not mentioning it before

OK, I've just messed up my last post by pressing the tab key, so I hope it isn't there. Anyway.......

When the machine goes into safe mode, your can do as others have said and press "no" and go to a reset point (a time before you installed your fatal programme). With any luck, the machine will re-set itself and you will be OK. If not, you have the options that I mentioned before- programs, accessories, file transfer which will save all of your data on to some other storage medium (I used it in safe mode a few days ago). Alternatively, you can do as I said about the hard drive, which is very easy (really!).

Now if someone can tell me why "migwiz" is picking up deleted files from this XP machine rather than the ones that I have transferred from the old XP machine I would be very happy (that's why I am here at the computer).
