Well, I just got back from my holiday, with great news! A BROKEN DS!  >:(

Before I left, I bought an R4. On my cruise, I had my DS lite on my chair, and it slid off and hit the floor. It was barely a fall, and I checked it. Everything was working fine, but the game jumped out by itself soon after. Must have been something to do with the spring. So I pushed it back in, but it wouldn't clip.

You heard the little noise when you know it's in, but when you let go of it, and expect it to stay in there, it would jump out by itself. Luckily, the game locked in after a while, so I decided to leave it until I got home, as it was working fine.

Anyway, later on in the cruise, it jumped out by itself again, but after many tries, it didn't wanna stay in there. If I held it in, and turned the DS on, it would work normally, until I let go of it..

I'll be posting a close up picture of it soon, as in the actual slot, you can see one of the gold pin things bent, maybe if that is causing the damage, but it sounds more like a spring or.. I don't know, because I don't know how the game usually stays in there anyway. This is all new to me.  ::)

So I have come with a question. What do you recommend I do? I may still have the one year garuntee on the system from Toys 'R' Us, so that could be an option, or I could find out from Nintendo how much it is to repair it, although it is flashed.. but with slealth, so maybe they won't see it? I don't know how it works. This is my first broken DS, so I really don't know what to do with it.

The DS lite really can't be that sensitive?

Thanks for the help.  :'(

If its under warrenty then nintendo will replace it free just dont tell them it was dropped or anything just tell them the game refuses to stay in the slot one ;)

they should replace it no questions asked ...so find out if you still have the receipt and if its under warrenty still then call your nearest nintendo service centre :)

I don't understand. Garuntee from Nintendo? I think there was a one year garuntee from Toys 'R' Us, but I don't know about Nintendo, unless they give it to you already like with Microsofts 3 year garuntee on the 360.

I'm confused.  ;D

May be Toy R us will just give a new one for you and sent yours for replacement.

I was just looking at the Nintendo of Europe website, located at http://www.nintendo-europe.com/NOE/en/GB/conser/details.jsp?systemId=tflO6IuRPNGGQn8P02jtI_zNtt592_p9&topicId=zdUTZQxW4C7nvxWo9qYWnj-F5EX6jgmb&x=20&y=6

It says:

Warranty - Nintendo DS hardware

For a period of 12 months after the new and originally packaged product has been purchased by a consumer from a retailer, Nintendo of Europe GmbH ("Nintendo") warrants the buyer that these products are free from defects regarding material and workmanship, unless one of the limitations listed below is in effect. Otherwise Nintendo will decide whether a repair of the defective product is necessary, or replace the defective part or the entire product if a repair is not cost-effective; in any case this is free of charge for the buyer. Other claims against Nintendo are excluded from this warranty; moreover, no claims can be made within this warranty for damages compensation. To make a claim under warranty the buyer has to (a) notify Nintendo about the defect within 12 months after the date of purchase and (b) send the product to Nintendo together with the claim notification, or within 30 days after the claim notification, together with the proof of purchase (such as a till receipt).

So, if I manage to find the receipt from Toys 'R' us, and send it in with my DS lite, they should either fix it, or send a new one, but theres the case of Flashme. I flashed it with the stealth version, so can they still find it, and press charges or something? And if I do get sent a new one, should I flash it, rather than selling my SCSD and Superpass 2?

Thanks. :D

returning it to the vendor or the manufacturer are both valid, just do whatever is convenient.

if you're from the uk, the vendor should do something about it but may refer you to nintendo. if that's the case, they're bound to have a 12 month warranty on it.

before you send it to nintendo, call them up and see what they have to say (they'll probably tell you to send it in). write a letter saying what happenned (playing dumb of course) along with a return address and include that with the ds and copy of the receipt. the whole process takes just over a week and they don't make a fuss about flashed units. if you say you broke it, i think they charge £25 for a replacement.

also, for your information - because your ds is worth quite a bit you should use insured shipping (special delivery is about £5). if you make a fuss, they'll give you a freepost address, which is useless because there's no insurance or tracking with that.

make a photocopy of the receipt and include that but you need to talk to nintendo first  :)

if its under warrenty mudlouse then its free  ;)

altho you do have to pay insured recorded delivery which is about £5 like you said .. this is advice of nintendo (I actually just had a ds phat replaced under warrenty) ;D

its worth paying the insured postage then its covered ... they pay the return postage of course  :)

Just got back from Toys 'R' Us. Brand new DS lite. No questions asked. Just charging it first, because you should charge it before first playing it, but the R4 definately stays in.  ;D

And I don't know if it's just me, but man, this DS lite feels different. The buttons seem much more pressed together, the way it clamps feels different. Maybe because I worn out the other one.  :)

Now, I still have my Supercard SD, and my Superpass 2. I'll be selling them because I now have the R4, but is it advised to flash it? I mean, I don't know what for, but .. thats why I'm asking you guys. :D

mudlouse1

congrats.

although unreported, the ds lite has definetly gone through some revisions. i've noticed they've change the "stiffness" of the hinge click and a few other things inside.

if you have an R4 i don't think there's much to gain from flashing it (i haven't flashed mine). i do know that if you want to use download play (when someone else hosts a game which you don't have) then it your unit probably won't work unless it's flashed. my advice is, don't bother until you need to... plus you can use the R4 to flash anyway.

Huh? Does it work as the Pass me device, which means I still need the Slot 2 device?

mudlouse1

traditional passkeys boots into slot 2, but a slot 1 device boots to itself (and to slot 2 if you need to).

if you shove the flashme.nds on the R4, it'll still run (as you would with any other .nds rom file)

so in short, you can flash with the R4 without anything else :)

Haha! Then what the hell do I need the Supercard and the Superpass for. :D

Thanks for all the help.

i think some people use a slot 1 and slot 2 device together at the same time because a) they can fit more games onto two cards and b) the extra ram on some slot 2 cards allow for GBA emulation and some exotic homebrew apps. although, it might be annoying having to remember to patch games.

oooooh sounds now that sounds a bit Risqué mate lol ;D

I find using a proper GBA cart more reliable for GBA roms than a supercard, as supercards are not the best solution for GBA roms they tend to be a lot of trouble... hence the reason most people are buying EZFLASH 3 IN ONE cards and use them for GBA instead  ;)
