I need a text to mp3 program so I can study vocabulary for my college class.

Anybody know any good programs for free?  I have been searching for an hour, but can't find any non trial versions!

Try Karen's Power Toy - http://www.karenware.com/powertools/pttoy.asp

You'll need to record the audio output yourself using something like Sound Recorder, but at least it's a free text-to-speech engine.

What do you mean by "recording the audio output?"

As of now, I downloaded Speakonia, which makes wav files, then used "Wav to Mp3 Recorder" (that's the name of the free program) to convert the wav to a mp3.

For those of you that are wondering, I needed an mp3 file for listening on my mp3 player.

I mean the following:
1.  Open Sound Recorder
2.  Go to Edit - Audio Properties
3.  Click the Volume button under the Recording section
4.  Choose the option for some sort of internal recording.  This may vary from computer to computer.  It could be "stereo mix" for instance.  Basically you want it to record whatever would get sent to the speakers.  This wa, you don't have to hold your microphone up to your speakers or use a cable to connect the headphone and line-in jacks.
5.  Start the recording, play the sound, stop the recording and save as a Wave file.  Use that converter to convert to mp3 for smaller filesize.

It sounds like you got it working regardless though.
