I bought my DS early last year (2006) and still haven't flashed it. I still have to turn it on with a GBASupercard, select some file, turn it off, insert a big towering thing with a DS game in the DS slot and then turn it on again.

Can anyone point me to a guide/procedure/setup/files to flash my DS so I don't have to use anything but the GBASupercard and just turn it on?

THanks!

First off, you will need a superkey or something similar to be able to flash it

Here is the info i posted on this same topice a while ago.

Here is some good info on how to flash http://www.dspassme.com/FlashMe.shtml with a video also.  There is another tutorial on gbatemp http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=33481, also has the latest flashme files. I think this tutorial is geared towards the dslite though.

Here is some extra info geared towards a dsphat

You need to find out which firmware is on your DS phat.

quote from ndshb.com

QuoteInstructions:

1. Insert a DS game in NDS slot.
2. Turn up your DS (Hold START for boot menu) and open Pictochat, room A.
3. Now remove the NDS cartridge from the NDS slot (don't worry, you can't do much harm).
4. Both screens should turn in the same color.

this should get you started
If the screens don't turn YELLOW (and you're not using iQue DS), it is a safe bet that it's PassME1 and WiFiME compatible.

The color 'chart':

- FW1: DS will freeze, when you remove the cart.
- FW2: Grayish Blue (thanks, tepples)
- FW3: Dark Green (Note! A silver DS bought in MK:DS bundle is most probably NOT installed with FW4!)
- FW4: Yellow
- FW5: Magenta
- iQue FW: Dark Green
- FlashME: Dark Green

Thanks to everyone who helped me at this mini research.

If you have FW1,2, or 3, you can use PassMe1. If you have FW4 or 5, you need PassMe2.

Is your superpass a superpass 1 or superpass 2? (You may need to program your superpass2)

Here is a site with clear instructions:

The links just above this line will help as well.

Also, if you can give more info, that will help us to answer your questions correctly. ;)

I think by "Tower thing with DS game sticking out" I meant a passkey2 or superpass2 or something like that.. will that work?
And thank you :D

blueoakleyz

Ok I have a Superpass 2

Firmware 4

gonna attempt to do it right now, doesn't look too hard (wait because I had a warranty but not anymore)

I hope I don't have to flash DS Lite if I get one. The new supercards, you don't need to flash with those right?

thanks!@

First off, flashing the dsphat is a piece of cake, agreed at the time it doesn't feel like it but afterwards you will be like "that's all there is two it?". the video makes it easy to see what is supposed to happen.

With the dslite (or phat for that matter) you can use a superkey or buy a slot 1 device like the SCDS1.

When finished make sure you tell us how easy (or not) it was!

Good luck!

Durr that'd make sense that you wouldn't have to flash it with the DSslot 1 because it USES the slot 1 and flashing is all about fooling the DS into thinking you are using the Slot 1 when you arent, right?

anyway success!

Didn't seem to hard at all after i got into it.

It started and got to 76% and suddenly stopped and I couldnt get it to short again for some reason (paperclip) and like a bobo I accidentally hit power.. d'oh. Turned it back on with the recovery mode, tried again and it worked after a few attempts with the paperclip.

Woohoo no more mini-32x-like tower

Glad it worked for you! See what i mean, not hard when you look back at it. Glad the info helped you out! We were are there at one time or another.

Congrats again!

Congrats!

Yea, it was hard once, but now when I have to do it, it's not even a hassle. And the new 'beeping' sound makes it real easy to know if you're doing it right.
