Introduction

Firstly, thank you to the manufacturer for providing a M3DSR for review.

The M3DSR, like the G6DSR, utilizes the REAL technology for high game compatibility.

Gbalpha will also release a few expansion packs with the M3DSR: a Rumble Pak, a Rumble and Memory 2 in 1 Pak, and a GBA Expansion Pak.

It will be priced similarly to the M3DSS.

This is a M3DSR + Rumble Pak combo.

What's inside the box: M3DSR, card case, card reader, CD, instruction manual and a Rumble Pak

The card case can store a microSD card in addition to the M3DSR

The Rumble Pak is identified as a DS Option Pak, just like the official product.

Interface

Main interface

Games, file manager, boot slot 2(NoPass), multimedia, PDA, settings and GBA.

You can create your own skins.

The interface shows game name, icon and file size.

Game settings: cheats, soft reset and slow motion.

Cheat selection.

Save files will be automatically created. All saves are standardized to 512K.

M3/G6 users should be familiar with the Gbalpha movie mode.

The official website provides a constantly updated selection of anime. Moonshell DPG files are also supported.

GBA

M3DSR supports GBA games with a suitable slot 2 card. You can use the new GBA Expansion Pak or a slot 2 M3/G6. It will have the same great GBA compatibility like the old M3s. Soft reset and cheats are support.

GBA connectivity function.

SDHC

A Sandisk SDHC 4GB borrowed from a friend.

Note that some early card readers cannot read SDHC cards. You need to use a SDHC card reader.

With 4GB of space, you can watch movies for days.

Or you could play games for weeks.

Although the slot 2 M3 Lite supports SDHC for movies, it cannot play games on SDHC cards. The M3DSR can play games and movies perfectly on SDHC cards.

NoPass

It can boot slot 2 cards even without a microSD. Hold B while booting to launch slot 2 in NDS mode and hold Select while booting to launch slot 2 in GBA mode.

Of course, you can also boot slot 2 cards using the interface.

Compatibility

M3DSR is not picky about the microSD card. It works perfectly fine with an unbranded 1G card from a Nokia phone, a Sandisk 1G and a Kingston Japan 2G. When tested with Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania - Portrait Of Ruin and Ouendan 1 and 2, there is no lag in the intro movies, no freezing when pressing the Start button and no slowdown.

Tested the following games for at least 15 minutes each. All play and save perfectly.

0083 - Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!
0094 - Akumajou Dracula - Aoitsuki no Juujika

Download Play

M3DSR claimed 100% Download Play compatibility. Lets see how it handles the two most notorious games for Download Play: Yoshi Touch & Go and Mario Hoops 3 on 3.

Noticed the DL PLAY button? If you start games using this button, it will solve the Download Play problem. You can Download Play games without installing FlashMe on the receiving DS.

Games without Download Play problems can be started with the START button.

0003 - Yoshi Touch & Go (US) Download Play works perfectly

0559 - Mario Hoops 3 on 3 (US) Download Play works perfectly

Epilogue

I was not provided with a GBA Expansion Pak, so I cannot test the GBA features.
I haven't played Pokemon Battle Revolution before, so I will leave Wii connectivity testing to other reviewers.

interesting how you can't get the right color for your ds

Perseid

I know it says 'September 2007' but it looks like it's not out, at least not in English. Any idea when it will be? That looks nifty.

h8uthemost

Yeah, it must be for the JP version. I hope the English version comes out in October. Think I'm going to get me one.
