Okay...my computer has two drives C and D. My c drive is almost full so i want to change that. For me, the C drive is the main drive and has about 13 gb. My d has 101 gb. Is there anyway to make my D drive the main hard drive?

there's probably more ways to do it, but here's two good solutions:

1) Use some program to clone your drive, the swap D to be the main drive in the BIOS. I can't name any because I haven't used them before, but some people here should be able to recommend some good apps.

2) Move all your personal files (documents, etc) to the larger drive and keep the smaller one purely for windows and applications. That's unless it's filling up with programs and apps.

make an image of both the C and D drives, stick the image for C on D so you get windows and stuff on the bigger one and keep the original C with the D stuff.

My C is 80GB (Window&programs)
My D is 400GB (Files)

I think you should keep window& program in smaller drive because if it has a problem with OS (Virus) you can format it. (if you re-install Window, most programs won't work, so just format them along with window)

And keep your other files (Safe) in D.

There is no real way to swap drive letters and if you arbitrarily start moving programs most of them won't work. You can install programs on D if you want, though. Like if you go to install a game and it asks for a path to install to change it from "c:\program files\blah" to "d:\program files\blah" or anything you want really. Not the neatest way to do it because then you'll have to remember which drive you installed stuff on but it saves you from having to nuke anything.

i would stick with it as you have it

you can change the default installation directory to somewhere else using the registry entry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

then edit ProgramFilesDir

but this can cause trouble if it isnt done on first install, so be warned

yes there is ITS CALLED ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE  :)

make a boot cd disk with acronis you will need this later :)

back up your windows drive with acronis true image it works in windows so no worries there it will back up your entire windows drive to an image file and copy it to a dvd or save it to your bigger drive   :)

just follow the guide onscreen :)

then the best way is to make a windows partition on the bigger drive with partition magic also works in windows make it about 20gb so you have plenty of space for more windows addional software etc later on :)

swap drives over making sure you have the replacement drive jumper set from slave to master and the old drive swap it from master to slave on the back of the drive otherwise they will conflict :)

then boot the computer using the ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE boot disk you made earlier and roll out the image file you made earlier onto the newly made partition and reboot and it should hopefully boot the bigger drive with windows that you imaged and it should be 100% the same as before but now with your bigger drive as your boot drive along with all your stuff you had on your original installation :)

I did this with my feeble 8gb hd I had for booting windows and rolled it out onto a nice big 320gb drive that I had split the 20gb off to use for windows  :)

altho maby not the best idea for everyone but works for me  :)
