A friend of mine is looking for these, and I was asked to help find a good price.  I thought, bah, realhotsuff, dealextreme, gameyeeeah, kickgaming... probably like $30 at most now, since they're outdated...

NO IT'S FREAKING $80!!!!

How is that possible?  This is practically stone age technology now... it should be dirt cheap!  This person has a GBA so DS cards are out of the question.

Surely there must be a store with more reasonable prices... I mean, $80 is more than the M3 cost two years ago!

i believe he wanted the m3s with GBA support... those "professional" ones will only load up to 4 megabytes? the max gba size i've heard of is 32 megabytes... (riviera) and most are probably 8 megabytes... so yeah...

M3 = perfect gba (i hear, and see) and 99% nds (new ones keep breaking it, and then they patch like all slot 2's)

The reason they're expensive is because GBA games require lightning-fast response times from whatever medium is storing the rom.  This is accomplished in one of two ways:
1.  Copy the game to NOR flash.  This is slow to write to but very fast to read from, but it's cumbersome to work with and has limited space.  NOR flash is also very expensive compared to media cards like SD and CF for the same amount of space.
2.  Copy the game to RAM and launch from there.  RAM that's fast enough is expensive, which is why the M3 Perfect costs so much more than the Supercard.

I know your friend is looking for a M3/G6 but if those are too much of an expense for him then why not look into the
Supercards? I have a SCcf and plays every gba game I've put in it and the best thing is that they are dirt cheap. RHS sells them as low as $35.00 http://www.realhotstuff.com/supercard-supercard-c-32_40.html

The best thing for around the price you're looking for is going to be the EZIV. I've heard they are the best slot 2 carts for GBA(which I have a G6 and it's excellent for GBA, but the GBA menu sucks) so I went ahead and ordered one.

That's about the best you're going to find.

If you want JUST GBA, the Elink cart coming out should be a nice solution, looks pretty cheap on MiniOnlineStore too.

Yah, they are good, cheap carts.  I had a 512 one from them :)
