I was having problems with saving on my EZIV. Games like Super Mario Advance 4 - Super Mario Bros. 3 wouldn't save. Or the cart wouldn't hold the save after I turned the DS back on.

So I looked through the EZ forums, and I guess this game has too many characters in the name. So I renamed the rom and the save file to Super Mario 3, and now the game saves just fine. The save is still there when I turn the DS back on.

So, for the ones that have an EZIV, or familiar with these carts, what are the maximum amount of characters that the rom and save file are allowed to carry? For the other Mario Advance games I'm going to rename. But I hope I'm not going to have to go back through every single game and rename it to something shorter.

If anyone can let me know what are the maximum amount of characters that the EZIV can handle in the rom and save name, I would really appreciated it.

I don't know about the char limitation but I noticed that, at least for me, only the DS loader have these problems: if I run (and save) a GBA game from the GBA loader the saves are 100% saved correctly.

I keep to traditional dos 8.3 filenames, no spaces etc and have no problem - I'm only using it on GBA.

It seems to have the problem when you have more than one long filename starting the same i.e. super mario 1, super mario 2, super mario 3,super mario 4 one or 2 of them would have probs!

make sure you use the altered firmware which reboots before starting the rom

And dai_uk, the EZ forums are so unorganized. I'm not able to find the firmware you're talking about. You wouldn't happen to have a link handy for it would you? And does soft reset still work for this hacked firmware?
