have you updated the OS lately? Try running the auto speed detect under options (i think it is options, do not have my ds in front of me). That should solve your issues if you haven't ran it yet and installed new OS.

they will generally start slower if you have patch turned on..

you can try to DISABLE patch and try it in clean mode.
