Use on Xbox Live at own risk

Technical details
------------------------
Defeats all current and some future Xbox Live detection attempts.

Thanks to all the beta testers, everyone involved for without their effort this would not have been possible. Schrtom for Dosflash. Caster420 for firmtool. Keep up the good work everyone.

Note: The version is 1.1 due to internal changes, there was no public 1.0.
Dosflash: The only way to read and flash a Benq drive is with DosFlash(info) 1.3. There is a support thread here to help with users experiencing problems. It is recommended to try the dos16 version first. It ONLY supports VIA and NFORCE sata chipsets. When using a VIA card, please be sure to disable both your IDE and/or SATA chipsets as they usually interfere with dosflash.

Well my elite is finally flashed! The floodgates have opened!!!  ;D Anyway, it didn't take long to do the actual flashing. Took me  a little over 5 minutes. The damned case took me damn near 30 minutes to get open lol. Guess I was just being careful not to break anything. Tried out a freshly downloaded Skate backup and it worked  :smitten:

How safe do you think it is to play 360 backups on Live?  Supposedly there's no way to detect it, but I'd be devastated if they found a way to detect it in the future.  All I ever do with the 360 is play online anymore.

Was it a pretty easy flash?

Yup, the flash was easy. Removing the case was the biggest hurdle. Well the backups have stealth patches that prevent detection. For an added level of protection, un-stealthed games won't even boot on ixtreme firmware. So far, the firmware is undectable and if they ever do, then c4eva will prolly just update the firmware accordingly.

Personally, I think its worth the risks considering I don't have to pay $60 a pop for games anymore. My game library literally doubled overnight  :D

Thanks for the info.  I think I might try to find a cheap stripped down 360 on ebay and see if I can flash the thing.  Voiding my warranty scares me when the darn things still have a failure rate of about 25%.  I personally have gone through 2 so far and probably only play games for 5 hours a week or so.  They definitely didn't die from overuse.

Do you happen to know anyone/anywhere that will do the flashing for me?  I've been reading up on it a bit and am definitely realizing that I am out of my league with this one.

Does this work with all of the BenQ drives?  I was looking around and saw some nonsense about specific chipsets.  Does that make any difference?

Well honestly, I dont know anyone or any site that could flash it for ya. It was real easy though. I lucked out and didn't void my warranty. Whoever put my warranty sticker on, placed it so that a very small part of it cover one side. So when I seperated the 2 sides, it was stuck to one side lol.

This firmware is supposed to work with any Benq drive. But your computer motherboard has to have a SATA controller with VIA chipset. It sounds complicated but its not. If it doesnt, you'll have to get a SATA PCI card with the chipset. Here's one for example: http://cgi.ebay.com/eSata-2-SATA-IDE-PCI-Controller-Card-VT6421A-RAID_W0QQitemZ130170815520QQihZ003QQcategoryZ140035QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Notice the chipset is VIA. They are relative inexpensive. You dont have to get one with external sata port but it makes flashing REALLY convienent because you dont have to have your PC case open while flashing.

Do you know where I might be able to find a tutorial on how to flash the drive? Once I take a look at it I'll be able to decide whether or not I can do it. I'll probably be extremely nervous if I do it, but in the end I'll save myself a butt-load of cash.

Edit.. I just realized I have a Hitachi drive :tard: Is there a similar hack for that one?
My Music

Nearly all of my songs are made with Fruity Loops, except for one where I used Reason. I recommend looking at my ambient stuff, and staying away from old songs, which are pretty crappy.

I tried for 3 damn hrs to flash a buddys BenQ drive and could not do it. I was trying to use the Xeno connectivity kit and tried it without it with iprep. I could not get the status to go to d1 after turning the drive on and off and back on. Any ideas?

Well all I did was hook my 360 to pc via SATA cable. Fired up Dosflash32. Cut on 360 and after Dosflash32 detected it, it was smooth sailing from there. Alot of people try to use iprep and dos but I find that it over complicates things.

DeVS

So after it detects it then what? Does dosflash dump the the firmware and then you just patch it and write it back? Do you have to erase the firmware before writing the patched firmware or can u just choose to write and will it just over wright it?

Anyone know the answer to the above question?

DosFlash32 has worked on two BenQ drives i've done.

Dump Original Firmware 1st.

Erase Original Firmware from drive 2nd.

Write Modified Firmware to drive 3rd.
