IGN has given Uncharted: Drake's Fortune an outstanding review score of 9.1 and an Editors Choice award.
Check out the IGN video review of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. IGN review

Can Naughty Dog live up to more than a year of mouthwatering coverage and placate fans who forked over $600 to see stellar title after stellar title come out on non-PS3 platforms?

Yes. Yes, it can. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is the most fun I've had in a videogame this year.
:
Uncharted does what few titles manage -- it completely immerses you in its experience. From the moment the game begins with a sweeping camera move through the waters off Panama, a rich score and the words of Sir Francis Drake etched on screen, Uncharted will have you hooked. It'll maintain that hold with its story, style and gameplay.
:
A lot of times we as an industry like to wax on and on about how videogames rival movies, but rarely do we have an example as well done as Uncharted.
:
Non-playable characters with spot-on AI is something we don't see enough of in games.
:
Whereas lots of games try to have an exciting storyline and then get bogged down with making you nail the mundane, Uncharted gives you a breakneck story and doesn't ask you to sweat the small stuff.
:
Look at Tomb Raider. If Lara taught us anything, it's that when exploring temples and other ancient hideaways there are going to be a ton of places you need to leap to, hang from and jump on. When taking Miss Croft through her missions, you have to maneuver her into the perfect position, leap at the perfect time and pray that everything goes right. If it doesn't, she'll fall to her death, you'll curse the heavens and the whole experience will repeat itself until you pass the part.

That doesn't happen in Uncharted.

Sure, there's a ton of ledge shimmying and leaping for Nathan, but our hero is a man who has one hell of a vertical. Although you'll be climbing all over this game, it's rare for you to die while making a move. Uncharted has this action-movie feel to it that could easily be derailed by having you get stuck trying to cross a gap for 10 minutes. The same can be said for the puzzle elements that are often times explained by a quick glance at Sir Francis's diary. Uncharted wants to be a fun, fast adventure. It doesn't want to become a chore.
:
However, Naughty Dog should be applauded for their decision to stick with the bad guys because Uncharted does a 180 in the final chapters on everything you've known, and it's amazing.
:
Say what you will about the PS3, but Uncharted isn't just a standout for Sony -- it's a standout for gaming as a whole.

Is it just me or does this game just not really look THAT impressive.  I think Sony fans (including those reviewing at IGN) are kinda grasping at straws here.  They're desperate for a GREAT game on the system, so they're making one up in their heads.  Granted, I could definitely be wrong, but it's just my opinion.

What? Did you watch the video review?

sparky930

I did watch it.  Graphically, yes it looks amazing, but just from playing around with the game for a little while, I just haven't felt it's a 9+ rating worthy game.  The IGN UK rating of 8.4 was a little more like it IMO.

It does look like a game that would make me just kinda yawn then it would tempt and succeed in making me quit

precisely.

I dunno, but the PS3 is starting to look like nothing but a glorified blu-ray player to me more and more every day.  I know it's still entirely too early to tell, but it looks like the PS3 is gonna take the road of the original Xbox.  Far superior hardware but just not enough games to support it.

bitblt

Not enough games to support it? What like Halo 3?  I think I can live without another Halo. I can play Bioshock on my PC.  Gears of War is about the same as Resistance, same thing different game. In fact Resistance has better online play.  Maybe you are talking about COD4, The Orange Box, Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero III, RockBand, etc.?  Guess what? They are all available for PS3.  Not only that but PS3 also has great exclusives like Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank Future, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Folklore, and SingStar.  Also Haze and Unreal Tournament III will be available before Christmas. Not to mention downloadable games like Toy Home, Pain, Gran Turismo HD, and more. After the holidays PS3 owners can look farward to MGS4, Resident Evil 5, Soulcalibur IV, Devil May Cry 4, Killzone 2, Turok, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed to name a few.  Later in the year we can expect titles like Final Fantasy XIII, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, and God of War III. We can also look forward to downloadable content like Playstation Home,  Echo Chrome, and  Little Big Planet next year. I won't even mention soem neat things happening with Playstation Eye. I think PS3 has lots to offer.

Ya but so can XboX 360 owners, lol (with exception of KillZone).

Only great game out of that bunch is Rachet and Clank, the rest are average at best.

I have been enjoying my PS3 ALOT more these last few months, but still think it has about 6months to 1 year left to get on par with the XboX 360 in games and price. That being said I still turn my Wii on more then either the PS3 or XboX 360 (though RockBand on the PS3 has been eating my friday and saturday nights).

I didn't list those as exclusives. My point is gamers who don't already own an Xbox 360 should definitely consider PS3 because it has over 80 games now, including games available for Xbox 360, plus a few great exclusives.

According to metacritic.com game scores, which are a weighted average of all of the scores assigned by individual critics like IGN, GameSpot etc., Xbox 360 has 33 games with an average score of 8.5 or above, the PS3 has 12, and Wii only has 7.  Let's not forget Xbox 360 had more than a year head start building up its game library.

Now let's compare the top 10 games for PS3 and Xbox 360. As you can see most of the best games are available on both systems. I think PS3 only needs a few more great games before the PS3 game library is on par with Xbox 360. Exclusives for PS3 like Haze and MGS4 will be available soon.

Top 10 PS3 games by average review scores
1 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
2 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The
3 Rock Band
4 Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
5 Ninja Gaiden Sigma
6 Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
7 Resistance: Fall of Man
8 NHL 08
9 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
10 Virtua Fighter 5

Top 10 Xbox 360 games by average review scores
1 BioShock
2 Orange Box, The (available for PS3 in December)
3 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
4 Gears of War
5 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The
6 Halo 3
7 Rock Band
8 Guitar Hero II
9 Mass Effect
10 Virtua Fighter 5

Plus the PS3 is a better value.  The $350 Xbox 360 premium only has a 20GB harddrive, does not come with Live, and does not have WiFi built-in. The $400 PS3 gives you FREE online service, 40GB harddrive, WiFi built-in, as well as Blu-ray HD movie playback as a bonus. The $450 Xbox Elite does not come with HD DVD movie playback, and requires another $100 for the WiFi adapter.

Well I can certainly respect your opinions DeVS.  I'm going to have to disagree Ratchet & Clank is the only great game for PS3.  I didn't list all PS3 exclusives above, just the best of the bunch. Didn't you say yourself Heavenly Sword was a great game?  I still play Warhawk regularly and is a very well balanced multiplayer online game. I also think Uncharted Drakes Fortune is a fantastic game. I'm not suggesting Uncharted is on par with Super Mario Galaxy or BioShock, but Uncharted definitely deserves a 9.1 score.

I personally enjoyed Uncharted better than COD4 single player. The COD4 single player campaign was way too short IMO, and the best parts were the very beginning and the very end.  I think COD4 shines more as an online multiplayer game experience. However Uncharted Drakes Fortune had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Uncharted is beautiful with amazingly fluid game mechanics.  To me it was like playing inside an action adventure movie.  I think Uncharted is absolutely the best game Naughty Dog have ever created, and that says a lot.

There we can agree. There is no chance PS3 will outsell Wii or Xbox 360 for at least another 6 months.  Remember Xbox 360 has had a year head start with it's game library, and Wii has been a fenominal marketing success despite its game library being somewhat weak. I do think PS3 will sell better than expected this holiday season.  We shall see.

I already picked up UT3 for pc, so i probably wont be getting that for ps3, but may rent it to try it out... I'm anti console FPS games in general but Warhawk is really nice on the controller.  I'm actually really surprised at how well I'm doing with it already.

I also have a few friends begging me to pick PS3 over PC for CoD4... How does it play on the consoles??? Will an anti-consoler like me enjoy it enough on PS3?  I loved the PC demo.

I must get uncharted, too.  The demo is bad ass.  It's like I get to control Indiana Jones or something.

I feel like I've finally leaped into the current gen of consoles getting my PS3.  Don't get me wrong, the Wii is cool, but nothing like this.  I feel like a sellout, but hey, what can ya do?

bitblt

I've read the console version of UT3 has been slowed down to make it more playable with an analog controller rather than a mouse. Also, The Orange Box was not ported by Valve, rather the port was handled by an EA UK team.  From what I understand the PS3 version of The Orange Box will sometimes dip below 30fps.  Both of these games are probably best played on a PC.

Fortunately COD4 looks and plays fantastic on the PS3. The auto-aim feature helps a lot. I think the single player campaign is somewhat short but is one of the best military shooters I have ever played.  Having said that I think COD4 shines even more as an online multiplayer game experience.

As for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune I just can't say enough good things about this game. The game is polished to perfection and is an absolute treasure of a game. It's easily THE best single player action adventure I have ever played. I think Uncharted is absolutely a  must own PS3 exclusive. From beginning to end Drake's Fortune is pure gold.

Not exactly uncommon for FPS's though.  Did you hear the rumor about COD5 being deved by the ones who made CoD3, Finest hour, Big red one, etc?  Really sucks, and it is also supposed to be WWII

Wow that does suck.  COD3 was kind of ass compared to COD2 and COD4. I hope it's only a rumor.

Devil_Spawn

i _loved_ cod4, i really hope cod5 will be good when it comes out

DeVS

I downloaded Drakes demo off PSN a week or two back and did not care much for it for some reason. I went ahead and rented the game yesterday and holy hell is it great! The demo really does not do it justice because when you play from the beginning, the story really sucks you in. This is the direction they should have taken the Tomb Raider series. Drake > Lara, lol! This is a must have for PS3 owners.
