The Rom Hacking Community- In need of a reform?

Hi

Well, since I stopped being active on this site I've gotten into SMW hacking, as it seems as close as I can get to being a game designer without having to spend tons of time programing. SMW hacking allows me to focus nearly all my attention on the game.

However, I'm quite disappointed with the community. www.smwcentral.net , the main site for SMW hacking, is the complete opposite of this site. People yell at noobs, their are tons of spammers... it's just crazy how mean people are!

But it's not just SMW hacking, it's the whole community. I've looked around, and the rom hacking scene is full of mean people that hate noobs that are trying to learn. As if everyone wasn't a noob at one point or another. But there are tons of spammers too, and just... it's crazy.

Really to bad, since rom hacking is just a fun hobby. :-[

discuss...

The increased number of spammers is because of the overall increase in people being able to use high speed internet now so it is a more viable option, this causes more of those people that have nothing to do to come and spam all over whichever sites they can find.  That is what ip bans are for.
As for noobs, there will always be that problem, if you actually look, many of them do not use search to find and answer and decide to post the same thing over and over which obviously irritates everyone else.  Theres nothing wrong with needing help but a lot of people need to start looking for information before starting another thread.  I think that is the main issue there.
Besides that roms are illegal so the community is not always going to be jolly and good.

Do you consider fan translations as a subset of rom hacks?
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Hi

Well, yes I suppose... though I haven't really looked at many fan-translation sites.

Hi

I've seen that, and the people there are nice... but very little rom hacking is actually done. It seems to be more of a "talk about ds rom hacking" forum than anything else.

Okay, so I guess there are some "nice" rom-hacking sites. But the more hard-core sites, places that are actually centered on rom hacking, places which any rom hacker almost NEEDS in order to accomplish there goals... they're different.
