PS3=DVR?

Is there a way to record shows on regular TV straight to the PS3's hardrive? Using either official Sony firmware, or "Custom Firmware" (if they have that yet) or maybe even a different OS, like Linux or something.

If there is, can you help me get started? Thanks

No I don't think there is. Sony has talked about coming out with an adon for it, but I have not heard anything new about that. Also there is no custom firmware or mods, and to record tv to the PS3 it would require some new hardware.

Interesting. First time I've seen that video. PlayTV is only available in certain European regions for now.

Ya like I said, you will need the PlayTV hardware to do this. The PS3 doesn't have a tv tuner built in, so there is no way to get video into it without an outside box.

In fact a stock PS3 does't have any type of audio/video input. A stock PS3 is output only. That is why extra hardware is needed to do DVR stuff.

This is the same reason that we need an external box for one of my TVs to use a certain DVD-Recorder? Right?

Non sequitur. What I'm saying is video recording devices like DVR's, DVD recorders, and VCR's have audio/video input AND output. Even most TV's and Theater System's have audio/video input AND output. The PS3 only has audio/video output. There is no way to record TV and movies with a PS3 because there is no audio/video input. That is why extra hardware is required.

Yes both sound and video can be transferred but as mentioned EXTRA HARDWARE is needed ... via USB adapters just as they are with PC's/LAPTOP's for both you can buy USB DVB cards

so in theory its possible to add that function its just SONY that needs to write the firmware update that will/would control the DVB/other card
