M3 or CycloDS

I've been using R4DS for a year now and I love it but I have a 6 gig microSDHC card I've been dying to use (it will work with both the M3 and the CycloDS right?).

I'm leaning more toward the CycloDS but I haven't gotten an exact comparison between the two.  I known the Cyclo has gba compatibility, but I haven't heard that with the M3.  What are your opinions/experiences with the two?

Thanks in advanced!

Which CycloDS?  Which M3?  The slot-2 CycloDS products are clones of the slot-2 Supercard.  The CycloDS Evolution is a separate slot-1 device.  The M3 Perfect and Pro are slot-2 devices, the M3 Simply is a clone of the slot-1 R4, and the M3 Real is its own device.  All slot-1 devices have no GBA support unless paired with a slot-2 addon.  No slot-2 devices can use 6 GB microSD cards (except maybe the M3 Perfect and Pro, but only for media files when using the built-in media player).

Your best bet would be a slot-1 device with the slot-2 EZ-V 3in1 expansion pack.

Sorry I meant Slot1, I have an old Slot2 supercard also so I can use them together...

And I thought the M3 and Cyclo could use 6gig SDHC?  I bought a SDHC just for them. :(

I agree :)

I have an R4 (slot 1)  and an EZflash 3 in 1 expansion pack ..combination and its a pretty good starter card with M3 SIMPLY being IDENTICAL to the R4 and made by the same team just different prices split the 2 as the firmware kernels can be crossflashed M3 on an R4 and R4 on M3 with a patch  :)

the downfall of the R4/M3 SIMPLY is that neither as you will of gathered with the R4 are SDHC compatible so will not entertain your 6gb card  :(

SC (supercard) DSONE HC (slot 1) is also a good card recommended here by many and has a lot more different configurable settings to fiddle with if you feel you need for more options :)

Cyclo evolution (slot 1) is also a good card but does not have as big a following as the R4/SUPERCARD slot 1 cards but would rate as the 3rd most popular slot 1 card but again afaik is not SDHC either :(

finally dragging up the rear is the TOP TOY DS which for a pretty budget card around £13 ($25/€17) is a good contender in the SLOT 1 card market with it already having good compatibility rates with releases and homebrew ... but with one minor downfall so far is that it does not currently work with the EZFLASH 3 in 1 expansion pack  :(

of which the TOP TOY DS IS SDHC compatible  :)

and for the record .... M3 REAL does support SDHC too :)

but not M3 SIMPLY!

So it looks like I should go with the M3 Real in order use my 6gig SDHC card correct?

I've got a CycloDS Evolution... and it works with the SDHC format quite well, the reader it comes with even reads the SDHC micro, which I understand some readers have problems with.

If you haven't already, get a class 6 SD if you can, the class 4's are OK but don't load as fast, and may/may not lag on some heavier apps/roms.

Cyclo Evo is awesome, has great compatibility, and the team has great response time when an issue with a ROM not running comes up... it even has a built in cheat system based on the Action Replay system (and fully compatible with AR codes no less) making it an excellent cart.. after all the research I did I ordered one and don't regret it.

For reference, the card I use is an Adata 4gb class 6 micro.. great card.

Also to note: the older Cyclo mini or whatever they called it.. isn't SDHC, so make sure you are getting the Evo.

Hope this helps. :)

Thats perfect, but I have a class 4 :(
oh well I think I'm gonna go with the Cyclo then, it sounds great :)

Thanks for all the advice!

You should be fine even with a class 4, there's only a few games that I know of that have lag issues.. mostly things like the new Castlevania that have intensive cutscenes, but some have reported them as running fine on class 4s, others not.. so it might be up to the quality of the card. Hope you enjoy your new cart, I found my Cyclo to be one of the best investments I've made in a long time.  ;D
