absulute begginer but can any 1 give me a detailed description on testing f1 and f2 fuses . with regards .  :)

Devil_Spawn

what makes you think the fuses are damaged - what does the ds do/ not do?

(when you try and turn it on, when you plug the charger in etc)

KEV121

with the charger plugged in the red light powers on for about 3 seconds then turns itself off . if the charger is left in a few seconds the green light will come on for same amount of time click and wine herd from speakers then switch off . this is a white nintendo lite in mint condition tried battery change . any help please thanks .

KEV121

without charger plugged in this ds does not switch on . no red light no power light . battery tested and charged

KEV121

my mistake this ds now without charger in,  red light comes on briefly goes out and very faint light from both screens and click heard from speakers . any help much app.

sounds like one of the fuses to me...  do you have a multimeter? you can test them if you want or if you're ready to solder you'd might as well try manually bridging f2, then f1... one of them will surely bring your DS back to life..

lots of info here:

cheers will test fuses when i get screwdriver . just that there were a lot of posts for same problem , ribbon loose , top screen broken fuses blown thanks again

KEV121

using a mulitmeter what sort of reading would i be looking at if f1 or f2 were blown . not that good when it comes to testing . please help

ratx

Put your meter in RX1 mode and put a probe at each end of the fuse, if the fuse is fine the meter should be showing a value less than 1. Anything greater than that would be a broken fuse.

KEV121

thanks for all the advice mate will give it a go . In your opinion is it worth replacing the fuse or just doing the bridge cheers

ratx

I wouldn't bother with a fuse myself but i'm a lazy ass ;) seriously though: bridged one of my own DS's about a year ago with no problems, plus have done a couple of mates with no issues.

Devil_Spawn

my ds has had a bridged fuse for atleast a year too.

I'm almost positive your problem is going to be with fuse F2. The solution, as ratx said, is simply to bridge the fuse with some solder and a small bit of wire.  Make sure you don't get solder on other components.

DS short circuit + blown fuse != "Bricker"
