Nintendo Ds Battery Meter?

Hello!

Is there ever a *real* way to tell exactly how much battery life is left on the Nintendo Ds?

I'm always left wondering, Since on some occasions I often see my brand new Ds battery not last a full 10 hours I read it can last?

Even when I do a charge, after 20 minutes the orange Charge light disappears. When I plug the power charger back in, the Charge light appears and the process repeats itself.

What I wanted to ask is, is there any homebrew software that allows me to check the battery? How much power is left as a percentage and perhapes how long it will last with the current Brightness setting?

The DS hardware itself only reports the two states you already see, "nearly dead" and "battery good".  You could possibly add a third-party DS battery that had its own external hardware detection device or something, but I don't think those even exist commercially.

there were methods theorised, but basically they require hardware addons (that nobody ever made).

dont forget that
a) you are only supposed to get 10 hours on the lowest backlight settings there is
b) homebrew devices use lots more power than original carts. having an unused gba game in the slot (i dont mean the filler thing) can also reduce battery life.

Thanks for the info guys!

Much appreciated.

I'm using the Dstt in my brand new Nintendo Ds Lite (had it for only a week and hav't used it much).

Will use it more often to properly judge how long it will last. But I always charge it when I am at home.

Yeah, homebrew devices tend to shorten the battery life.  Slot-2 devices with extra RAM are the worst.  On my DS Phat with a Supercard miniSD, I'm lucky to get 4 hours before it dies, so I don't really know what I'm going to do for our class trip in April that requires driving 8 hours each way.  I might have to dust off my GBA and use GSM Player again for my music fix.

Dan, get this:

I have one and loved it so much I got one for my girlfriend.  Just pack extra AAA batteries and you are good wherever you go!  The charger also doubles as an LED flashlight. :)

If only they sold ones for the DS Phat, I'd be sold.  That's exactly the type of thing I'm looking for.

http://videogame.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00091&dept_id=008&cat_id=020 would work but they're out of stock.  Still, I should start looking around for that type of product, so thank you for the suggestion.

If you get that battery, then make sure you get a PSP charger of some sort to charge that thing.

Migs

Wow, I was planning to buy that exact same charger.
Will look for prices on a psp ac charger.

Won't a psp usb charger work as well though?
