Supercard died?

I have a somewhat old Supercard CF that's been working fine until today. The last couple of times I turned it on, the menu's text (list of roms, etc.) was somewhat garbled, but it worked fine after loading the games. Now, when I turn it on, I only get white screens. Removing the CF has no effect - I still get white screens. If I remove the Supercard entirely, the DS itself boots and works fine.

Any ideas or do I need a new Supercard?

Devil_Spawn

you might want to try taking all the files off the cf card, formatting it, then replacing them.

Check that all the pins on the cd connector look OK.

Removing the cf card entirely gives me the same white screens instead of the "no card found" message, so I knew the problem wasn't there.

Anyway, I managed to get it to work by blowing the supercard as we used to do back in the NES days. Problem is I have to do it EVERY time and I hate having to remove the Supercard from the slot - it's such a tight fit it feels like something will be damaged in no time. Since the problem seems to be with contacts, is there a more permanent solution to my problem?

I had a similar problem about a year ago. It turns out after opening the Supercard CF, I noticed a few solder points look corroded. This explains why blowing it to make the contact was necessary everytime. But overtime the moisture must have made the problem worse. So it looks like the only solution is to by another card, that's if they still sell CF versions.

Never mind. I tried updating from 1.83 to 1.85 and it seems to have bricked my SC for good. Can't be bothered to try and recover it since it was giving me trouble already.

Guess it's time to buy a new one. Naturally, I want a Slot 1 solution in case my Slot 2 contacts are corroded. The R4 would be the easiest and fastest one to get at the moment - is it supposed to be terribly outdated? If so, which is considered the best solution right now?

BTW, if it matters, mine is a phat Japanese DS and was flashed long ago so I could skip Passkey.

Also, can I use save files from my SC with the R4?

Thanks again

I'm using a R4 now and it works well. Even with a Kingston Taiwan Castlevania POR works perfectly. As for the saves, you can use this converter: http://www.shunyweb.info/index.php
You only need to convert the 256kb saves. For 512kb saves you only need to rename them.

you might want to look into the toptoy as that is known to be good and low budget.

you mean the DSTT is a good low budget cart as the toptop is the neoflash version which seems to retail for a lot more than the DSTT for some reason!!??

I think afaik that the NEO version is the OEM kinda version of the 2 I got several of these cards and they come usually as blister packs rather than a fancy boxed version not sure if they are any cheaper than the boxed version all over the net etc

......I do know that the boxed comes in 2 flavours ... just the slot 1 card on its own  or the slot 1 + rumble pack + gba card as a pack  :)

the pack version is more expensive than just the plain DSTT on its own due to extra bits for the slot 2 side :)
