Wii's sold in North America the last week with LU567xxxx serial numbers will not work with any of the D2C chips, including the original versions and the new 9wire clones now showing up. The console internals look the same (same drive board, same D2C markings on the chip) but, after installing a mod, backups will still not boot. It is possible that Nintendo has made some major changes to these new systems so, if you can get older D2C models, it's best to get them now!

Apparently it is the Wii's new motherboard that has the protection. People have tried switching a working moded D2C dvd drive into the new units and it refuses to work. Interesting stuff.

Ninty seems to have slammed in the protection pretty deep into the Wii.

The D2Ckey website has been updated with the following...

We received the first drive with the new d2c chip on yesterday and we can confirm that is indeed different. We have dumped the firmware and are just starting to analyze it. It seems that nr reader mode has been disabled in this firmware (see nice screenshot of firmware disassembly).


The D2Ckey Team have confirmed exclusively to WiiNewz that they have been successful in cracking in the new D2C chip. Expect a new 9-wire mod solution soon.

Lol this is like the time when the new PSP firmware came out (along time ago, my brother is not in the scene anymore) and my brother wanted the custom firmware and someone cracked the firmware within the first hour of the release lol.

Just a mod request, can we like update the thread title to say this is the D2C thing?  I just thought that Nintendo released another hardware revision to stop modchipcs.

Well they did, it's called D2C2. But now there are 2 mod chips on the market that get past the new hardware changes.

tho ive never heard of the chip is it a new one entirely? (havent really been following the wii modchips since i dont have a wii yet )

These are damn easy to fit- I did the Wiiclip version for the older models and it only took 10 mins
