You don't need passme to install it. Wifi-me or if you have an older version of flashme, both work for upgrading it to version v5

Quick question....

seeing that the original flashme wrote to empty sectors that were for the wireless,... When upgrading to version 5, would you not need to restore the original firmware before installing the new flashme?  Or is it perfectly safe to write over version 4 with version 5?

*confused*

Thanks for the help!

but you still need to short SL1!

I've had zero problem going from v3 to v5 and I don't think anyone else has either. I'm not sure if v5 erases all the space the was used, but if it doesn't I don't think it matters since mario kart wrote to that part of the firmware just fine before even though something was already written there.

updated to v5 without any problem using flashme v3 + wifiMe :)

This is great news.  How cool is it that loopy already has a fixed firmware available more than a week before the release of the game?

Quote from: "Koji"Was talking to some people at pocket heaven, it's not very likely that Nintendo would risk writing to the already used portions of the firmware. If someone were to accidentally turn off their DS or the power died while it was writing to the firmware, it could very likely cause bricking which nintendo will not risk. Especially since there is no backup code for the original DS firmware.

That would mean Nintendo would be replacing a lot of units, or repairing them free of charge which would be expensive.

Not quite.  Mario Kart is only (as of v5 of flashme) writing to an area that was unused anyway.  So if anything was corrupt, it wouldn't affect the part of the firmware that makes the DS not be a brick.  Most likely, the games would just do a check on the wifi part of the firmware, and if it's corrupted, prompt you to fill it out again.

No big deal.

Remember that Mario Kart writes to a portion of firmware where there isn't supposed to be any critical code.

kdarnach: Yes, we know that. I was discussing with someone else why nintendo wouldn't risk writing to the original firmware to make passme unuseable. If nintendo tried altering the rest of the firmware, they'd have to find some way to insure you'd have to plug in the system to the power and make sure you couldn't turn off the power while it was updating.

Does anyone know if this works with the new ds's with the updated firmware?

Yes it does. The firmware that added the new DS support was version 4, this is version 5. Loopy didn't remove any functionality, he just altered it to be small enough where it won't interfere with mario kart.

I use the cory 1492 and loon111 ideas,  but I changed the iqsram.sav:

I made a dummy of 32KB an added it to sram.bin of NintendogsLab&Friends-EUR.zip (from http://www.ndshb.com/cgi-bin/cfiles/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,9 ). Then I renamed it to iqsram.sav.

With the original iqsram.gba and the new iqsram.sav pasted in my CF it works great!!!!

Thanks to cory 1492 , loon111 and noequaliz.

salu2.
So it definately seems to work.  I still havnt recieved my Passme2 :( and natrium42 wont get back to me.  Oh well.   I guess I'll just have to wait.

I put up cory1492's tutorial on the main page, too.

so its possible to upgrade from a previous version of flashme without using wifime or passme? Do you just load it up thru supercard and youre good to go?
