volume control very sensitive on DS

I'm wondering if I'm the only one with this problem.  I have an original US silver DS.  The volume slider has always been *extremely* sensitive.  Normal comfortable listening volume is about 1/3 of the way from the left.  Any more to the right and it is really loud.  But the problem is moving it just barely to the left from this position.  Just touching it a tiny tiny bit turns off the sound.  So I have no level between completely silent and comfortable.  If I'm lucky, I can sometimes get a volume in the middle.  Could this just be a problem with the slider?  Anybody else have this problem?

I bought a first release DS (on release day) in NYC and I remember my slider was VERY sensitive. I got rid of that unit awhile ago, and since have purchased a new one. The new one has a tight slider (tight slider...that doesn't sound right :)) so I think that it may have been a production issue in the first models. If you check out models over a span of months (or years) with just about any game system, you can see changes happening. I do notice that the new models have sort of "non-clicky" trigger buttons, while my first release model clicked pretty well.

I've got this too, with a first gen DS.  Strangely I've also got the clicky buttons.  I like them.... but it's true the volume can be annoying sometimes... especially with headphones >.<

I have a first gen as well. The volume is very touchy. It can produce some very loud sounds, but there isa  clear line between that and quiet. There's a range of loudness that it doesn't produce. But I really don't mind much.

It is annoying since it is very hard to get just the right volume.

My first gen DS has the same problem as well as the fact that any volume short of too loud has nasty sounding distortion.  This happens with both the speakers and headphones.

The newer ones have that fixed?  I should buy another DS.

I have no idea if it's different on the new DSs or not.

If I had a screwdriver that can open those weird Y screws on the DS, I could put my years of electrical engineering education to good use and check the resistance across the slider potentiometer.  If it's just the slider that is the problem, it would probably not be too difficult to find a replacement part.  If it's a problem in the sound circuitry itself, then that makes debugging or repair a bit more difficult.  Anybody know where to get a screwdriver that can open the DS?

Edit: Just answered my own question.  Google is my friend!
