if I buy a new blue DS, and then get a Superpass2 + Supercard CF combo, load (patched? do i need to patch them?) a rom on to the CF card, will it work or do I HAVE to flash my firmware? I really don't want to mess with it/risk briching

If you get a DS with yellow firmware, it's a hell of a lot of hassle to not flash it.

1. Insert SC with FlashMe & passme2buttonwait.
2. Boot in GBA mode, run passme2buttonwait, select game, write SRAM.
3. Insert PassMe2 with game, powercycle DS.
4. Run DS code off of SuperCard.

You have to go through that entire process every time your DS is off for more than 20 seconds.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

i'd assume it is the newest firmware since i think they restock pretty fast
-if i do flash the firmware, do I then NEED to still buy a superpass2?
-is there a big risk in doing this or will it work if i'm not retarded
-will all future NDS games, like ones I ACTUALLY buy, work with a flashed DS?

1. You will NEED the Superpass2 (or Passme2) to do the flash in the first place!

2. The only risk will be turning off the DS WHILE you are flashing the firmware. Leave the power supply plugged in for extra measure when you do it. It only takes a few seconds, and then it's done. After it is flashed, you will no longer need the Superpass2.

3. A flashed DS will work and act just like an unflashed one. You can still use it for store bought games as usual, but you can ALSO use it to run NDS code from the GBA slot.

4. Search these forums. There is a wealth of information regarding this for you should you have additional questions.

yes, they can go online with wifi .  And gba games run the same way as they do on an un flashed ds.

Just a little something about you saying the blue DS probably has the new firmware... It's very weird because nintendo is still producing NDSes with both the new and old firmware still. So just because you are getting a brand new DS does not necessarily mean that it's using the new one.

The only sure fire way to tell is to use the color test. If your DS is yellow then it's firmware 4 (the newest and the one that requires passme 2) if it's any other color, or it freezes, it'll work with old passme/wifime.

lol i'll do a search before i actually ask how to do a firmware test
but that's kinda odd they're doing that
in someways i want the new firmware just because it'll be the newest.. i'll just get the superpass2 anyway though..

It does not matter what firmware you have now if you flash, because after you do you'll have the same firmware as all of us that have flashed DS units do!

Koji has a point tho. I purchased a brand new Blue DS unit not very long ago (month or so?) and it was actually old firmware. I used my old Superpass to do that flash. But, I would recommend ordering a Superpass2 anyway. This way you can be absolutely sure that you will be able to sucessfully flash the unit.

is it possible to flash without possibly voiding my warranty?

zektor

Quote from: "cheerup347"no, you lose the warranty instantly, the only thing to do would be to install fashme stealth and put the red n white sticker back on as well as yo can, if it came to sending it to nintrendo, you can unflash it, but you will have to make sure the sticker does not look tampered with!

lol, thats the only way i would see that you could get away with getting a replacement.

good luck!

This is very debatable. While Nintendo can say that you void the warranty if you open the unit, I don't think they can say you voided the warranty by removing a sticker. I mean, the sticker does not even say "Do not remove, warranty will be void" or anything. I think by law you would be able to get away with it and they would have to honor the warranty.
