I am new to all of this am looking for either the SC SD or the SC Lite

I had a few questions

Is there any performance gains or differnece between the SD and the Lite?

Is the added price of the newer system worth it?

I read about card speeds, what type of card speeds do I need?

is the lite any better than the SD in terms of GBA playback?

sneef

Ok. The lite can perform excellently with standard-speed microSD cards (whereas the SC SD requires high-speed SD cards to perform similarly)

The added price is worth it if you have a DS lite and want the form factor (i.e. not sticking out at all)

Card speeds:  for SD you want something pretty fast for streaming (rom patched to SD card position).  Koji and others have said 60x is sufficient, but i honestly think my 150x does better than my 60x.  having said that, I would remind you that access speeds and transfer speeds are different things, and perhaps my 150x has better access speed than my 60x.

GBA is the same on either.  (not talking about load time from NAND to SRAM.. just gameplay)

Yes, the Lite version handles memory bandwidth much better then the older SC's resulting in lag free gameplay. With the older SC's you had to have a miniSD/SD at least 80X of higher to get a mostly lag free game and even then you could still get it. With the SuperCard Lite using even normal microSD media you get a mostly lag free experience without paying extra for faster memory. The Lite version also loads GBA games faster as well as saves.

Is the added price of the newer system worth it?

Yes, as the SuperCard Lite fits flush in your DS Lite. If you have a DS Phat then go with the SuperCard miniSD as it fits flush with the Phat.

If you get the SuperCard Lite you can get any regular microSD but I recommend the SanDisk Ultra II. If you get the SC miniSD then 80X is necessary to get lag free gaming.

Some say it has less slowdown and loads games in half the time of the older versions.

I suggest you get the minisd version, I got it and it is great.  I've seen friends use the supercard sd and it looks terrible, not sure about the lite though..

Just get the lite ;)
(I have the SD and wish so badly  had the Lite)

Llama

Its just that the memory is very expensive.

Llama

also do I still need a superkey with the DC lite./

sparky930

Yes, you will still need the Superkey with the SC Lite.  I would highly suggest getting the Supercard Lite.  You will really regret it if you don't.  The card itself is only $5 more and just for a litte price comparison...  You can get a 512 MB microSD for about $25 shipped from newegg.com whereas you would be spending $15-20 shipped for a 512 MB higher speed regular SD card.  If you need more memory than that, you can easily pick up 1GB microSD's for around $40.

So, for about $15 more, you are getting something that fits flush in your system and you never have to worry about taking it out, plus it looks a heck of a lot better.

I went with the lite, IM just looking for a microsd card now?

FifthE1ement

Get the SanDisk Ultra II for best performace.

Don't worry as you'll be happy with it!

I would put my money on a microSD product since the biggest companies have decided that microSD will be the used standard for mobile devices in the future. A microSD card might cost more now but you will find out that they will have a larger support very soon.

I vote for the Supercard Lite as well!

Mine should be here in the next few days, so until then I won't speak about performance. My main reason to why I bought it was due to the form factor.
I own a Supercard SD and it sticks way out on my DS lite.
And everybody keeps asking what the blue thing is.

As to the memory card issue, we all have to buy them sooner or later.
I need to buy a microSD for my supercard and miniSD for my new phone, so I'll own all 3 sizes of SD cards. hahaha

The micro SD can also be used as a mini SD and a SD with the converters.  you usualy get the micro SD to SD with it.

True, but when you need a card in 3 different devices, with different purposes, I would still buy 3 different cards.  :D

yea but you dont need them at the same time like I have one that works on my supercard lite, supercard mini SD,  supercard SD and M3 mini SD and I dont use them all at the same time and if I do I always have my mini SD
