SC miniSD speedup, and flashme question...

Hello all,

I've just ordered a SC microSD to replace my SC miniSD I bought a few months back. My brother has shown an interest in my old miniSD model, with the intention on running it on his phat DS.
Now, I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to speed up Tony Hawks and AC:WW as these are 2 games he's probably wanting to play.

Currently I'm just using a bog-standard Sandisk miniSD - is it worth buying a faster card, or will this make no difference?
If not, is there anything I can do with the current card to speed things up a little (ie, formatting with different cluster settings, changing ROM options etc)?  He's got no interest in playing GBA games if that makes things easier...

Question number 2:
I also own a SuperPass2 which I'll (hopefully) use to flash my bro's DS phat. Performing the Picochat test resulted in the the LCD's turning blue when the DS cart is unplugged. Is it possible to use the SuperPass2 with his DS in order to flash the firmware? Also, which flashme version should I be using?

cheers guys

question 1:  it will really help to buy a faster miniSD card..  but if you really can't, then format to FAT with 64k cluster size.  This may help a bit for in-game stuttering with tony hawk.  If you can, pick up a faster card.  They are really affordable now.

question 2: your superpass2 will work fine.  just get the correct sav file in sram and you're set.

Use the latest version of flashme.

Thanks for that sneef!  No doubt you're getting tired of answering n00b questions!?

Don't suppose you can recommend a miniSD make/model?  I've had a quick look for the ATP cards, but can't find them in the UK...the SanDisk Ultra II's look good, unless there's any other make you can suggest?

cheers

well, not sure about their miniSDs, but i've had good results with PQI high speed SD cards, and they're cheap..

i'm still using a sandisk in mine, because I only use it for some homebrew...

and, your question is not "n00b", it's a good question! :)

One thing to note: have a kingmax miniSD that works ok for commercial roms but will not work with homebrew that accesses it using FATlib or REIN's lib... it works fine in my m3 miniSD.  Just a warning, if you're thinking of getting a kingmax.

The ritek 1gb model is 23 shipped and is 150x on Newegg

tbh, I've just tried the 'format with 64k clusters' technique, and while there is still noticable jerkyness (is that a word?) I don't think my bro would be too fussed [he's the type of person that can play PC games @ <30fps, so I don't think a little bit of slowdown will bother him too much]

Plus, he could always pick up a bigger/faster miniSD card at a later date...

Appreciate the help guys!
